I'm not questioning or doubting the OP at all, but stories like this abound and become more and more muddled the further removed from the original source we first hear about them. I'm thinking/hoping there was just a fundamental misunderstanding somewhere along the line and the conversation morphed with each iteration until, viola - I'm my own Grandpa. I hope.  That totally sounds like something they would do. I walked out of that place 15 years ago when buying a DSA FAL. I won't get into it, but it was even after the BGC cleared and have never been back since. Haven't heard of it with a FFL transfer, but it happens all the time when someone gets pulled over and uses their relatives or someone elses WDL info, claim to be someone else.
Can't do a WA WATCH without fingerprints if there is a dependency on the identity. Ex wife worked with a guy who bragged about his criminal history, couldn't pull up anything. Used too many names and ID's, came up with multiple people. Knew a guy in the 80's that had a revoked WDL, said he didn't have his license on him and gave them his brothers DL and contact info. A lot of agencies have rapid field fingerprint readers, but we don't have them.
