So, he's gonna be fired... then arrested .......... like anyone else who was negligently handling their firearm and shot someone, right?

McMinn County deputy killed 2 dogs during warrantless search of wrong home, lawsuit claims
https://fox17.com/news/local/mcminn-co-deputies-killed-2-dogs-during-warrantless-search-of-wrong-home-lawsuit-claims-sheriff-joe-guy-dalton-townsend-4th-amendment
Quote:
On April 4th of this year, Milo and Alladin were sleeping in a bedroom at a home on the 200 block of County Road 675 in Athens, close to their owners.

At about 4:00 a.m., the sound of the bedroom window being opened woke the dogs up, and they rushed to the window, their guarding instincts taking over.

The person at the window pulled out a gun and shot both dogs.

...the lawsuit, which was filed against Deputy Townsend, McMinn County Sheriff Joe Guy and McMinn County, claims Townsend and other officers were on the property without obtaining a warrant, which is a violation of the plaintiff's 4th Amendment rights.
...
It also says no one inside the home knew the suspect deputies had been looking for.

The complaint reads that the deputies didn't even know if the suspect was in the home

There was an anonymous tip that the suspect was in the general area

Iowa police chief charged with lying to ATF to obtain machine guns for resale
https://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/news/crime-and-courts/2022/12/15/iowa-police-chief-charged-over-illegal-machine-gun-resales/69731562007/
Quote:
A small Iowa town of 800 residents likely has no need for a police force armed with 90 machine guns to keep the peace.

That, at least, is the view of federal prosecutors, who on Wednesday announced the indictment of Adair Chief of Police Bradley Wendt on charges of making false statements to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives to obtain numerous machine guns over a four-year period on behalf of the Adair Police Department, which during Wendt's tenure has never had more than three officers.

Image
Quote:
Wendt also sought repeatedly to obtain for the department a rotary M134 minigun capable of firing 50 rounds per second, usually mounted on military helicopters. The ATF denied the requested transfer.

"The Adair Police Department does not own a helicopter," the indictment notes.

My only issue is if he used taxpayer funds to do it.

If it was his money, more power to him.

The problem is, you can't really fight a case like this, because if he argues 'But I couldn't get them legally, so it's an infringement', then he admits to the fraud....

From the article:
"At least some of the weapons purportedly obtained for the police department were bought with Wendt's personal funds, and it is not clear if city money was involved in the purchases."

Clearly illegal since he bought them for resale or use as demo weapons through his store for profit.
