Looks like the crash of crypto is putting downward pressure on salon watch prices:

"The decline shows the most sought-after watches from the top Swiss brands haven't been able to maintain lofty prices hit during the pandemic when cash-flush consumers stuck at home snapped up Patek Nautilus, Audemars Piguet Royal Oaks and Rolex Daytonas in a frenzied search for the next hot asset class. Dominated by Rolex references including the Daytona ceramic bezel chronograph and GMT Master II, the Subdial50 Index has declined by almost 5% in 12 months and nearly 17% in half a year."

Maybe I can trade in my 1957 Timex auto-winder for a Patek Nautilus?

Other than jukk0u's last post, I'm bringing this thread back from the grave as I have a question.
I don't know why but I got a wild hair and want to get a nice (affordable) watch.
I found one in my price range and think it's not a bad looking one. It is also a well known name.
Need advice/opinions on this:
TAG HEUER Gent's Wristwatch WJF2110

It's at a (respectable) Pawn shop here with a $400 tag on it. **asking and getting are two different things :wink05: **

What do you all think?

If it was me I wouldn’t, If it ever needs serviced or fixed it may cost you more than you paid for it and finding a good service place may be difficult as well.

At a 400$ budget you can get a nice brand new Hamilton and have a little coin to spare.

Just like a used car you never know what problems you may inherit, and when it comes to watches that is a can of worms you DO NOT wanna open.

Just my .02

Nice looking watch. Don't know the brand though. I know that doesn't mean much.
I did read over Costco's Satisfaction guide and was pretty impressed with it.
https://www.costco.com/wcsstore/CostcoUSBCCatalogAssetStore/Attachment/Customer_Satisfaction_Policy.pdf

I'll say this, Costco has got a crap load of name brand watches. icon_eek

Know anything about this one? Bering Ultra-Thin Men's Quartz Watch
Item 1669227 Model 17240-797

Gotta pass on that one. Case Diameter: 46.7 mm is too big for my skinny wrists.

All the rage in the late 90s to mid 00s. It may have the Calibre 5 movement which again is the ETA 2824-2 or the Sellita SW-200-1. Any of them can be rather easily repaired by any half decent independent watchmaker. If you like the style it will probably run a very long time, providing it wasn't abused by the previous owners.

Also caveat TAG Heuer sold about a bazillion of the Link variants and they are heavily counterfeited. For research, here was the 'small seconds' version recently sold by a high end watch dealer in California.

Browse the Topper site, call them, ask for Rob and tell him you want the WUS VIP experience. He'll enjoy that. Personally, if you like the look, this one is a winner:

Here is a little good news.
I did a search of Tag Heuer authorized facilities.
One here <only one> came up close by.
Simmons Fine Jewelry - 15 miles away
4.9 stars 904 Google reviews - this looks pretty good to me.
I'm thinking that if I go with that Link, then I take it straight to Simmons to 1) Have it authenticated and 2) Get a price on a cleaning/tune-up.
The shop that is selling it has a 30 day guarantee so really nothing to worry about.

From their website:
Quote:
Watch Repairs
Simmons Fine Jewelry also offers in house servicing of fine timepieces including:

Maintenance servicing
Battery replacements
Overhauls
Watch Fitting and Sizing
Watch repairs
Experience world class service from a professional

Breitling
Tag Heuer
Oris
Carl F. Bucherer
Rolex
Omega
Tudor
IWC
Cartier
Panerai
Patek Philippe
