All right, somebody help me out here. Maybe I just don't understand the rules of engagement for cops.
From all of the video I've seen, Tyre was resisting, every second of it. It appears that he wouldn't get out of the car when asked (though I haven't seen earlier video with him in the car), and right from the get-go he refused to just lie down and let them cuff him.
So, what's in the acceptable playbook for cops? They tased him. They pepper-sprayed him. He was still resisting. They held his arms and legs and wrestled, they couldn't contain him.
Is it unacceptable for them to strike him? Fists, baton, etc.?
Honestly, based on the video I've seen, I haven't really seen anything that I think is unacceptable. Sure, it's unfortunate that the guy died, but it feels like a path that he chose.
It's also unfortunate that five cops can't simply hold down one man without needing to strike him, but it sure looked to be the truth. Maybe (probably?) he was on drugs, I don't know.

The majority of such cases seem to be along these lines.
This one seemed unusual because 5 black cops couldn't subdue one slenderish black guy. They were not doing it right. Did they choke hold? No? Yes? I think not.
Was the COD blunt force to the head? Internal injuries?
What were the tox results?
This dead clown had no previous encounters yes?

Kicked the guy in the head while he was restrained on the ground. Full on punt.. amongst other things.

Yeah, I was pretty much okay with use of force until the head punt and punches in the face after they stood him up.
Up until then he was a crocodile.

It is incompetence on display for five cops to fail to restrain one suspect. He was not cooperative, but they failed to stop him from simply running away from the first scene. Then when they caught him at the second scene they didn’t restrain him. Instead they roughed him up. Then, as seen on the video from the light pole cam, they pulled him off the ground and held him up so other cops could take turns punching him in the face and beating him with a baton. They were punishing him out of frustration. I’d definitely like to know if any screening or testing was done on those cops when they were hired.

The police department recently changed its policy. Today, if candidates don't have the college courses or military experience, they may qualify through work experience.
