Yes Dexter EZ Lube is suspect, but I am wanting your thoughts on the grease color after “flush”. Not needing to know “you should pack your own”, etc. I’ve hand pumped slow and turned wheel per mfg instruction. This is only the 2nd time I’ve done the maintenance since owned, was new 2018 Flagstaff Microlyte. The 2nd year owned I added grease until I saw the bright red, took about a tube of grease per tire. This time 2 years later I pumped it in thinking it would not need that much, but it took another tube on each wheel. When I pumped the old grease it came out as it’s supposed to, but even after a tube it still did not turn bright red. It only reached a reddish maroon color. Note the old grease coming out was jet black. Thoughts? Did I just need to keep flushing a little longer to purge the ez lube more?

You are trying to do it the lazy ass way and it aint gonna work for several reasons.

1 you are mixing greases and who know what reaction is happening.

2 The bearings need a certain preload to run right you are not setting that preload.

3 All that pumping with a 5k psi grease gun is ruining your seals.

4 Where is all that grease falling.......probably on your brake parts.

Pull one wheel at a time and clean the bearings right and the Bearing Buddies. I use high temperature bearing grease. I recently went to Lucas Red and Tacky and Lucas green high temperature wheel bearing grease from CRC high temp wheel bearing grease because the CRC has bee hit and miss.

Boat trailers are a problem cause you drive to your destination and hurry up and launch your boat and quench your bearings and they suck in water so I keep a grease gun in the boat and extra bearings and cotter pins. I try and let the bearings cool a bit but in any case I grease then with a grease gun before going down the road. You do not have to use bearing buddies you can simply drill and tap the standard bearing caps for a zerc fitting.

I have bearing buddies on all of my trailers, travel, boat and utility.
Keep them full, until they “spew”, before and during every trip!
It’s not a once or twice a year thing.
Checking lash is….
Also carry spare bearings/ rebuilt kits, even a spare spindle if going long distances and far from a good source for a new one.
