Guess it must be that white privilege again.... oh wait.. https://www.mlive.com/news/saginaw-bay- ... store.htmlSo, these 3 dudes break into a shop and steal a bunch of guns, one of which was used in a murder later... The judge is worried that these 'teens' (aged 18 and 19) won't have a fair shake in life if they're convicted of the 45 combined felonies... So, he does the only reasonable thing he can.. Put them on conditional probation, with no jail time, and if they complete their probationary period, the cases are expunged/dismissed. Too bad most of the guns are still missing...and the 'teens' have refused to say who they sold them to, or help recover them in ANY way... Oh, and the judge? You'll never guess what he says.. Quote: “It’s very clear science, evidence-based conclusions that the brain isn’t fully developed in young men until roughly around the age of the mid 20s,” Borrello said. Trust the science! So, if you're 23, it's not your fault! Your brain just isn't fully developed yet.

To be fair, they haven't been sentenced yet. I think, from the judge's tone, it's likely they will escape felony convictions, but it isn't a guarantee.
Also, I don't know how I feel about escaping charges altogether, but I am all for sentences that actually rehabilitate people, especially young adults, when their crimes are nonviolent. The judge is right, the three need to be held responsible for their actions, but all three will likely be very different people in another five years.
Now for the tricky part. Will an alternative sentence actually lead to rehabilitation and give us three upstanding members of society, or will we see all three again?

They will be back in the system before the probation is up. No real punishment? They will think they can get away with it again.

I mean, was this really a crime? They just liberated someone's 2nd Amendment rights and transferred them to someone else for a fee.
Think about this. As government is is moving to punish people for not "properly" locking/securing their firearms in their locked and secured houses they are letting those committing the actual crime go with little to no punishment. How can anyone's mind process this as a deterrent to crime?

Did the judge cite Holder et Fast/Furious as precedent?

So, is it only racist when rednecks, sitting on the porch, drinking sweet tea, strumming on a banjo, say 'dem po my-nor-a-tees, they just don't undamastand when they done did sumthin wrong, dem po folks nid all de halp they can dun get'.....? Or are judges exempt from the soft bigotry of low expectations?
I guess we can rank this up there with 'No voter ID because minorities don't know how to get a drivers license' and 'Minorities don't know how to use the internet... ?

I was under the impression 594 was supposed to prevent such things?! And if you failed to follow the law and a weapon you sold was used in a crime, you would be charged for that!
