All right, let's tell the story now that all is said and done.
As you SGN'ers know, TINCANBANDIT and I were mods at SGN. The site has been slowing down for quite some time, for a variety of reasons. The two admins no longer logged in, and it was down to me and Casey to keep the site cleaned up. This involved the usual deleting of "sold" threads and such, which didn't amount to a whole lot, but we also spent a lot of time deleting spam threads and banning spammers, who inevitably came back in short order under different accounts. Casey and I were both on the site multiple times each day, doing "housework," and it started to feel like a whole lot of work for a site that didn't have much activity, and was pretty much abandoned. I finally decided that something had to give, so I texted the owner and suggested that it was time to either bring in some admin help, or shut the site down. He decided to shut it down. I asked if it was okay for me to post a farewell thread, and he agreed; many of you saw that thread and posted in it, thank you. As you probably saw, there were some folks that wanted to take over the site and keep it going, and at least one of them contacted the owner. In the end, though, he just wanted to shut it down and let it go. Massivedesign and I made him an offer for the site, which he accepted, so WaGuns now owns the SGN website and domain. We have worked with SGN a lot in the past, with me as a mod and Massivedesign as admin at one time, and the rivalry between WaGuns and SGN has always been respectful . . . so there was a level of trust between us. As some of you have seen, SGN now redirects to WaGuns. Right now that is our only plan with the site; we don't plan to revive SGN or put another site in its place. We will probably get some more SGN "refugees" in the coming weeks. Well that's just silly...
I was okay with you wasting your time on an inactive site, sheesh!  Makes perfect sense. If you could bring feedback over, you'd be heroes, but I know that it's different software. Does this mean you'll be nicer here, 'cause you won't be so over-worked ?  J/k ...I'm sure it's nice having one less thing to worry about. |
