July 2017 our house was robbed by our house-sitter and her friends. Three Firearms (one being an SBR), two Form1 silencer tubes and the safe they were stored in were stolen. The stolen safe was small and was used in my workshop to safely store things while I worked on them. The larger safe was not tampered with and no ammunition was stolen. November 2017 the stolen SBR was used in the Mountlake Terrace Pot Shop armed robbery: https://myedmondsnews.com/2017/12/edmonds-brier-men-plead-not-guilty-armed-robbery-mlt-pot-store/ and https://law.justia.com/cases/washington/court-of-appeals-division-i/2017/75367-3.htmlSeptember 2019 the two suspects where sentenced to 11+yrs. https://www.justice.gov/usao-wdwa/pr/armed-robber-sentenced-11-years-prison-mountlake-terrace-cannabis-store-robberyNovember 2020 the appeal processes took a few more years as the defendants were stating they were not aware the rifle they used was a SBR/NFA item: https://law.justia.com/cases/federal/appellate-courts/ca9/19-30225/19-30225-2021-02-11.html June 2022 one of the defendants wants early release due to a myriad of issues: sick mom, obesity, Covid.... https://casetext.com/case/united-states-v-woodberry-18August 2022 get a call from ATF Office - Seattle they are finalizing paperwork as the Appeals process is finally over and will call in a few weeks to schedule a time for pickup Today (Sept 21, 2022) Showed copy of Tax Stamp and ID, signed document that I received the item, and shook hands. Agent commented that it was rare to see an NFA item used in a crime let a alone the owner of the firearm legally possessed the SBR. Lessons to take away:- Lock up your firearms
- Bolt your safe down
- Track all serial numbers and receipts (USAA covered 95% of everything stolen)
- Don't F@!# with the ATF as the criminals only got 1yr for armed robbery but got 10yrs for illegally possessing a SBR

Glad it ended with you getting your property back at least. Cant imagine how shitty it must be to be betrayed by someone you trusted like that. How did that happen? Obviously you knew it was them right away?

Well, that is a relatively good ending for sure.
I'm disappointed in the one year for armed robbery, though . . . wtf.

Obviously you knew it was them right away? It was the daughter of my wife's friend that she new since she was a baby. Her story didn't add up and fell apart when one of the friends was caught pawning my $2k Hoyt hunting bow which was recovered. One of the other friends was a daughter of Everett PD but when we shared the name to a family friend who is Everett Detective they said they were losers kids. SnoCo Sherriffs office handled the burglary but no one was prosecuted other than the Pot Shop Boys. She lied to our face and tried to play it off as a home robbery. We've never spoken to that family again. Last we heard her mom was taken for $50k in a phishing scam. Karma is a bitch!

Five years
It took Five Years to return it
Imagine the uproar if police impounded stolen vehicles for five years while the case plodded along...

Man, what a mess! Glad to hear you got your property back. Too bad they won’t prosecute a felony against a thief being unlawfully in possession of a sbr like they would an otherwise lawfully abiding citizen.

The Feds had to hold onto it due to the appeals processes as this was a point of contention. I believe if they didn't there would have been an uproar and a precedent they didn't want to set. They really wanted to throw the book at these criminals as they were repeat offenders and the armed robbery only got them a year of jail time. Hence the warning I put in the lessons learned.

Goes to show how far gone our WA judicial system has gone honestly.
