Well. Shit. That’s the worst news.

Rest In Peace Rod.

Did Mike mention any service? If open to the public, I’d like to attend.

It’s with great sadness I have bad news. Rod passed away from complications caused by pneumonia on August 4. He had fallen a while back and continued to have problems after the injury. I spoke with his son Mike at the house.

Thanks for stepping up, and letting us know Scorpion Rider, tough duty. My condolences to friends and family.

Wow. I was afraid to click this thread, and my fears were justified.

First, scorpion rider . . . thank you for making that trip for us. And Free Boer and Caveman Jim, thank you for your offers as well.

Yes, Rod (cootduster) was a retired chiropractor. Per his sig line:

Retired May 30th 2018, after 41 years.

I'm not old.

I'm just no longer young !!!

And yes, he was a darned nice guy. I only met him a couple of times in person, but we corresponded regularly via PM. Let me list a couple of things about Rod that stand out to me:

- He worked hard -- really hard -- to keep our forums clean. Many of you probably don't know this, but even back in the SGN (seattleguns.net, for the newbies) days he would comb through the classified threads and bump "sold" threads so that the mods would see them and delete them. Here at WaGuns we made him a moderator so he could continue his cleanup work. He'd often be cleaning up the forum in the wee hours of the morning while the rest of us were sleeping, so we would wake up without ever really noticing the difference.

- Rod was privately very proud of his "milestones" on the forum, such as post count and feedback. He really didn't post that much, as he was fairly private, but he would occasionally send me a PM that read something like, "No big deal and please don't say anything, but I just hit 100 positive feedback!". If he could know that I just told you that, he'd be mortified and he'd slap me.... His final post count was 5,337 and he had 201 feedback, 100% positive of course. Not bad at all for someone that stayed quiet!

Rod, you worked your butt off to help our forum for many years. Thank you. I will miss you.

I believe he was a retired dentist if memory serves.
RIP… cootduster

I thought mike had said he had been a chiropractor for around 40 years. I might have misunderstood, I was in shock about his passing.

Rod and I had talked about doing some shooting and my wife and I were going to invite him over to dinner since we both got Vaccinated recently. I was looking forward to hearing more stories from him.

Yes Chiropractor. I stand corrected. Bad memory.

He mentioned that Rod would be in a Portland veterans place. I will send him a text and ask if there will be a service and any details I can get.

There is going to be a small service, but it’s limited due to Covid.

He will be placed in Veterans cemetery in Portland

This is the second text I sent to Mike, so he would know how we felt about Rod.

“There have been many great posts about your dad. Everybody liked him. He will be missed on the forum and by all that met and talked to him. “

Thank you SR for finding out for us.
RIP Rod.

We lost a really good one guys. I can’t tell you how many mornings I woke up and checked the moderation logs to see that Rod had completely cleaned and wiped all of the old classifieds threads. And he’d go deeper than that. Digging through all the old classifieds to find the threads where members had forgotten to bump for deletion, or lock their threads, or edit their titles.

He was thorough. And that’s an understatement.

I didn’t know Rod in life but from what I can see of the work he did here, he was the best of us. Humble, faithful, steadfast and true.

Thank you Rod, for who you were and all that you did here.

You will be missed.
