Don't worry about that --- just pull the hose and inspect the nipples for clogging. Detach hose from exhaust/flue/burner side - suck on the tube and see if you can hear the audible 'click' in the diaphram --- shouldn't take much suction to activate.
Stay out there when it tries to fire --- should hear
1) exhaust fan start - should run ~ 30 sec before igniter fires
2) should hear the click of the diaphram after ~10-15 sec
3) igniter should start to heat @ 30 sec - will glow red hot for ~15 sec
4) gas turns on - flames

I like to DIY. But I know my limits. And there are some things that are just too big and hairy for me to tackle myself. Between skills, tools, and just plain spending the time.

I poked around the furnace a bit and found the igniter...no idea what I’m looking for on it other than “yep there it is”.

I have no idea what I’m looking for to locate the diaphragm. The manual doesn’t say anything about a diaphragm. So maybe mine doesn’t have one or it’s built into the gas flow module?

Given I have no experience with HVAC type stuff the schematics in the manual are Greek to me. Though I did find the secret decoder ring to tell me what the blinking LED means. Turns out that it’s an ignition lockout after 4 failed ignition attempts.

This is probably due to the power flickers. While I was looking at it and watching the furnace run, the power flickered and it started its shutdown sequence. Then it went to reignite and blinked a similar failure code. That would also explain by turning the furnace off and back on again clears the error.

Youtube is your friend. I'm not an HVAC guy either, but I know how to research and troubleshoot. What type/brand is your furnace?

Is there a switch on the cover to prevent it from starting with the cover off?

Clean the carbon off the flame sensor if it lights then shuts down.

Usually, you can tape it down temporarily.

Be very careful with the igniter if you remove it - they are super fragile once they've been installed for a few years. I'd watch it while letting it attempt to ignite. If it glows red during the sequence above it is not the issue. If it is bad they are pretty universal and they're super cheap on Amazon ($15ish)

If it is failing to light the igniter is suspect #1. You can also test this by running it with the cover off and attempting to light manually using a long lighter, but if it glows it isn't the problem.

Also look for the safety limit switches. If they trip the whole thing will shut down when it tries to light. There should be one near the burner and one on the fan unit towards the top and possibly one more depending on model. They generally have a manual reset button on them and 2 wires hooked to them. In the photo above there is 1 visible, it has 2 red wires as attached.

My old furnace tripped the limit switches due to a bad capacitor that stopped the fan and thus created and over heat situation.

There aren't that many parts in a furnace. YouTube helps!

I figured I'd drop these vids from the SNOW 2019 thread here for info and quick troubleshooting for those not really familiar with how a furnace works. Good tips and directions. I actually learned a couple of new things watching these.... I've learned quite a few of these myself the hard way and from trying to help out friends, but there is a lot of info all in one place.
Hopefully they will save someone some $$$ and get their furnaces up and running quickly.
