So with all this cold weather ---- I've noticed a few new 'squeaks' coming from the furnace lately..... I was out in the garage the other day as the furnace was cycling and the squeaks were emanating so I took the door off the furnace and investigated..... I noticed when I put my hand on the inducer fan motor housing that the squeaking sounds went away --- okay, now what? Went back to drinking beer happy at least knowing what was making noise. Today I was out there again during a cycle and looked at it again..... same thing - put some force against the fan/motor housing and the sound went away..... but this time I had the thought I should check the mounting screws for the motor housing! Sure as shit --- all four screws were backed out 3-4 or more turns! One was backed out so far that I was convinced the hole was stripped because it wasn't tightening -- it took another turn or two to tighten up. All screw tightened --- squeaks are GONE!
Its a good thing that there is an adhesive gasket holding the housing against the burners --- with how loose the screws were there would have been a massive air leak that would have kept the furnace from ever turning the burners on.

I like that: 1) Beer was involved in the triage 2) It was a cheap and easy fix

Beer is always involved in the diagnosis process --- and many times the solution - that may lead to other problems The one that I haven't figured out yet is that with all the rain the last couple of days --- my gutters on the north side are not draining and the water is just pouring over the edges..... Its been really bad. Sunday into monday I gave it the benefit of the doubt that the gutters were frozen up - that would explain it. Yesterday it was raining and the temps had been ~36 most of the day and it was still happening.... I checked the other downspouts and they were all flowing good --- but the ones on the north side were not --- I 'thought' the gutters should've been thawed by that point. I was out chatting with the neighbor yesterday at ~3:30 when it was 36 out and realized that the ice on the ground was still rock hard even though it had been raining..... I'm hoping that by now the gutters/downspout have thawed or will quickly in the next day or two before I have to get on the roof and clear them.

Tree coverage and/or wind could inhibit one side from thawing as quickly as the others, or perhaps it froze more solidly.
With all the wind, you could also have something interrupting the flow to the downspouts.

I was pretty certain that I had the gutters pretty clean --- many cleanings all last summer and fall from all the pine needles falling. Yeah --- I think I under estimated the shading of the north side gutter.... all the snow and the teen temps could have easily formed LOTS of ice in the gutters. I just assumed temps in the 35 range would have melted it all ---- I'm hoping I was wrong. Going with the 'lets hope this self corrects' plan.....
