Yeah, I'm 10 years old.......

Looks at brass tumbler. Orders grit, gets container of rocks kids have collected for 25 years.......just finished first 80 grit tumble. HOLY chit they are purty. Started into 120 this AM.

Will take photos next step. In theory this tumbler is 2X speed, but is doing OK.

Watching! I bought the grit and got the rocks (Already have a big ass tumbler for brass), just haven't started tumbling yet. Now everything is packed ready for a run to MT.
Post photos and lessons learned!

Hmmm

Hadn’t thought of that. I have plenty of 70 grit from my blast cabinet.

Will do.

OK big tumbler? Brass RPM? Get ceramic media: https://rocktumbler.com/media.shtml

The rock just will smack with too much force unless your tumbler is quite full -and I was afraid that heavy load would be too much. If your motor and drive ratio can handle it, then full load only.

Very neat!

Our area is so young and diverse with minerals compared to other locations.

I may have mentioned this before, but it's become apparent that my brass tumbler RPM is TOO FAST for rocks. I mean the motor, pulleys and belt are working fine, but the slurry needs to be worked more slowly. The carbide just goes to fines so rapidly and the rocks smack too hard.

I looked at mechanical (pulley/belt) changes, meh........going to try motor speed control first

 I got a couple fan motor speed controllers. Both from the mari-jee-wauner industry. They work great!! Motor runs cooler, controller cool to the touch - speed about 60-70%. Seems correct.

Give badclam a shout. His partner is very nice and she’s very savvy with stones, rocks, cutting, and polishing.

Very cool. Also found out my SIL when growing on the army base in Japan, they had a full lapidary for kids of US Army soldiers..........I'm amazed by that. In the 1960's.

Yeah stuff from the pot industry. Who knew? Some of the ducting and duct motors are very cool!

Started a new batch today. I have some lapis lazuli and some cool green high grade calcite along with beach finds, and New Mexico finds. A bit excited. Just scared the delta hardness may be too much.

Did the first changeover to medium grit. The lapis looks awesome already, the green calcite looks ok, just too soft, next batch will tumble alone.
