Kent-Moore J-1280 Hydraulic Brake Line Tubing Flare Tool
Googled it. There's civilian and Mil-Spec versions.

It's a gas can from circa 1960? Oh.. The jack! Google Foo says it is a railroad jack, maybe 10ish ton. I was able to make out "Duff Manufacturing" on the side. I was really expecting it to be some kind of beer related equipment, pretty disappointed in the reality!

Ok, the ‘Beer related’ expectation took me a minute. LoL Good One...

The jack is like what was already said, a railroad or ratchet jack. They're referred to a lot as Simplex jacks as Simplex, along with Duff/Duff Barrett/Duff Norton were the larger manufacturers. They're pretty strong, usually 10-20 ton capacity in that compact size. The bottom piece is called a push-pull jackscrew, or push-pull screw, or push-pull jack. Simplex is still in business and still manufactures both types of tools. https://www.tksimplex.com/en-sx/push-pu ... acks/PP610Hope this helps,

My neighbor found this in his shop while cleaning and has no idea what it is and I haven’t got a clue either. Anybody know what it is?
