My sis called and said, her car is running rough. She had a neighbor run his code reader and it came back as an egr issue. My sis says her egr has two half-inch rubber hoses connected to the egr, and that’s it, no vacuum line and no wires. And the egr is not bolted to the engine, it’s just hanging in space by the two rubber hoses. Anybody seen an egr like this? Any idea who makes one of these?

The whole setup looks like somebody modified the factory setup. The car is a 2000 Ford Focus ZX3. Here are a couple of pics my sis took.

Looks like a check valve of some kind

Rock auto only shows EGR valves that look like what your describing. Bolts to the engine and has a vac line going to it

I'm not convinced that's part of the egr system. That looks like a pulsation damper in a fuel line. The vacuum diaphragm for the egr looks similar, but as posted above will be mounted on the exhaust manifold.

Get a second opinion. Most Ford egr issue of that era are due to a fualty dpfe sensor. This will be a aluminum or black plastic box with two silicone hoses attached to it. This senses exhaust gas back pressure which allows the pcm to regulate egr flow.

I'm not familiar with the Ford system, but a faulty back pressure sensor sounds like a likely culprit. usually the valve itself can just be cleaned and reinstalled.

Fair enough. I sent my sis a dpfe sensor too, as they are pretty cheap. If these two parts don’t fix it, I might be in for a road trip. Thank you gentlemen!
