I recently made an epoxy river table that I gave my folks for Christmas. Definitely was a challenge considering that I’m not much of a woodworker I think it turned out awesome. I welded some legs and had a piece of glass cut. Took about 60 hours to complete.

That's pretty awesome. I've always wanted to try making one of those. What was the hardest part of the build?

Love me some Settlers... That would be a cool table for it with the Seafarers expansion.

If I was to do it again I would definitely clamp down the wood to the form. I didn’t think about it before I started pouring the epoxy but the wood started floating on top of the epoxy. It was really just time consuming. A lot of sanding. Started at 80 grit and went up to 400. Definitely don’t skimp on the type of epoxy you buy. It isn’t cheap but the Deep Pour brand worked well, it took about 48 hours to harden but there were no bubbles trapped in the epoxy and mixed with the powdered dye nicely.

Very nice job! I bet you were wishing for a big ass planer at some point during your sanding!

I am a slab guy (now). But I detest the epoxy river thing. Just not my bag, not in my house, etc

That said, that looks AMAZING. Good wood choice. Well done! :thumbsup2: :wagwoot:

Thanks, I was never a huge fan of the epoxy tables but my mom always mentioned how cool she thought they were so decided to give it a shot. Happy with my work for my first time doing such a thing.

I almost threw in seafarers in the references.

Friends and I did a game of twilight imperium last week and i forgot how time consuming they are.

Nice job... I have picked up some maple slabs with an eye towards doing something similar. I have seen small cracks filled with a "paste" made from pulverized turquoise or other minerals, looked good... lots of ideas on YouTube.
