Pulled 3 of these brutes out today from an urban lake that's mostly private so its not fished very often. On the 4th of July, our guide caught over 30 so we sorta got skunked today in comparison but we learned a lot. With the full moon and clear nights he thinks they have been feeding too much in the evening. We also caught a bass that was fat with eggs so he thinks they may be spawning now that the water temp is coming up.

Well is it mostly private, or private? I do a decent amount of Crappie fishing throughout the year. Mostly through ice though. We have a goot spot uo North here, but have to hit it at sunset and right time of year. Mind me asking what sort of gear you're using? Don't need exact baits and such.

Mostly private as in no public access but some of the landowners around the lake do once in a while let others on... as in the case of my father in law who passed last year. He would let the guy who showed us around today on the lake for a 6'er of beer. They became friends and he still comes over. We finally were able to meet up and he showed us some of his tricks. We caught these 3 just on minnow like rapalas trolling from a pontoon. I think the one I caught was on some sort chatter bait with a minnow threaded through. I caught mine on a old Shakespeare 6 piece collapsible light backpacking rod with a casting reel. It gave the pole a pretty good workout. The kids both have new 6'6 or 7' medium rod setups.. I attached the photo of my kids fish with his bait jammed across the fishes mouth. This is how we reeled it in, it never set the hook.. We were also trying for Bass with Senkos and Topwater frogs with not much luck. My kid caught the best bass of the day on a greenish 5" Senko.

Yep, my kids loved cooking them up. We are officially moved into the lake house so that is my new back yard... Going to start planting some habitat in our part of the lake to get the bass to grow up.

That’s a win-win!
Fish get habitat and grow up and a good chance in survival... then you get to fish them and your kids get to enjoy an awesome childhood!
