Well it wasn't in the yard....but last night I awoke to strange noises and did a sweep of the house with the home defense shotgun, think someone was trying to get in the back door. Waiting and listening the noise was below the door, changed weapons and a 22lr took out the rat that had just chewed a hole through my fucking floor just below the back door. Point blank saw him splatter through the hole. Little bastards

You took a helluva chance downgrading from the 12 gauge. Glad you're alright!

Are you sure you don't have a wolverine in your house?

It's amazing what these critters will chew through, I have had them go through electrical sockets, hot wires, plumbing under the sink, chewed on the metal pan under the hot water heater. Been almost a year without them in the house since my last extermination effort. Had to pull the traps after the wife found one with her toe on a midnight toilet walk. Slept on the couch for that one for a week. Same couch I had thrown outside when I trapped a pack rat in it, he got a load of #8 dove shot when he popped out of the couch. Some houses it seems a never ending battle. Wife's cat is worthless I swear

When I mowed the mound out back, wow - never seen so many rodents. So far none in the house. Two cats and a part rat terrier are busy and ready.

During the summer months rats and mice are fine living out of doors. But when it starts to get cold that’s when they move indoors.
I think the average well fed house cat is not going to be too interested in a good size rat.

My first pest kills for the new year. Got these yesterday. Distances for all were about 14 yards. The starling was shot around 3:30pm. The first rat was shot at about 9pm the second a little before 10pm.

Well yes I’m still hunting in my yard. About every couple months a rat or two tries to move in. I seen this guy last night. Set up for it tonight. Just got it. I first thought it was a bad shot by the way it reacted. It did not drop on the spot. So I went out to see if I could find it. Looks like the pellet entered on the back side the rat was facing away from me when I took the shot. I was relived to see that I actually did kill it. It was about two feet from where I shot it.

I then turned it over and seen that the pellet actually exited the body. icon_eek

This distance was 20 yards. Shooting JSB Hades .22 cal 15.99 grn pellets at approximately 630 FPS.
And a safety note. Always know what is behind your target! Passthroughs at very common when you are using high power airguns on small pest or game.
Now I’ll just wait for the rest of the evening and see if there are anymore out there.
