Good haul. You have excellent taste in whiskey!

I don't, to be truthful. I am learning but had read some entry level brands were hard to find so it seemed like a fun challenge to try after shift. The nice people considered me worthy for some stupid reason.

I've had knob creek before and like it. Never seen the 12 year, but do have a bottle of single barrel select.

Y’know … I quite like it. Good flavor, but still pretty smooth.

Finally broke open the Heaven Hill 17. The nose is amazing. It’s a little oak-heavy, but really a very well-balanced bourbon. Delightful!

Is it what you expected?

Didn’t really have a lot of expectations, always a little nervous opening a new bottle. But I like Heaven Hill products and have heard good things about this one. It’s definitely more of a “special occasion” bottle than an “every day” one.

Gotcha, thanks.

I just know different folks who save a bottle of wine, or a bottle of hootch, and when we tap into it, it’s always fun to see if it’s what they expected, better, worse, etc., …

Comparing Eagle Rare 17 with Heaven Hill 17.
The nose is surprisingly similar on both, but the ER is way better.

I haven’t tried this yet, so have no idea if it’s actually any good. But I love the bottle and the fact that my brother sent it to me. (Because we ARE Nelson brothers.)

What I DO know, is that the 2nd pick Leuken’s Barrel Pick Stagg Jr is the best Stagg I’ve ever tasted outside of George T. Stagg. And it’s better than some releases of that.
