Been wanting to get a pellet grill/smoker for a couple years now. Finally pulled the trigger on this guy for a good price. Now I know it’s not a traeger but for sub$100 I’ll gamble on it. Now that being said I’ve never owned a pellet grill/smoker so I need tips tricks and advice.

That Pit boss will work just fine for a starter unit. As long as it holds the desired temp it's all good! Pellets...make sure that the pellets are all hardwood, no filler wood. Pit boss makes good pellets, they are sold at Costco under the Kirkland brand, or you can get pit boss labeled ones at Walmart, etc.
What are you thinking of smoking first? I'm sure many of us will have suggestions for whatever you choose. Can't go wrong with Ribs for a 1st cook, and really not much to it.
Rubs....for Pork my go to is Bad Byron's Butt rub. Ribs, butts whatever Pork, it's good. It can be found locally, or Amazon sells it too.
Fire that bad boy up just to get it hot and clean, even if you don't have anything to smoke yet. It will give you a chance to check temp settings and the controller too.

Not sure what I’ll cook yet, maybe I’ll smoke a watermelon I’ve seen videos of people bringing them like a turkey and it looks real good

Is it missing the smoke stack?
Some of the easiest to smoke for the first time is seasoned chicken drums.

Some pellet grills don't have smokestacks; they just vent out the back of the main chamber. Dunno about that particular grill, though.

I think this one vents out of the back but has an opening on the side maybe for a stack? Also the gal was super nice and gave me about a 9lb brisket because she wasn’t ever going to eat it so Score!!!! Not bad for 85$ just needs a good cleaning
