Given we are in a coastal state, chippies are common place. In fact my first job aka highschool gig was at a local Ivar's Seafood Restaurant. I still go there every once in a while. They recently pulled the one out of Southcenter Mall. Spud in Greenlake was quite good too. Of course I like the malt vinegar on my fish and chips. What are your likes?

Tom’s fish and chips. It’s a drive down in Oregon. One in Seaside and one in Astoria.
Food is amazing. Plus for me they have a special appeal. My Aunty who passed away last year in a tragic auto accident, frequented the one in Seaside and they put up a picture and memorial for her.

Well since you’re in Des Moines, the closest good F & C would probably in Burien. There’s The Burien Fish House ( https://www.theburienfishhouse.com/), started out as a food truck & was so popular, they opened a brick & mortar. They also have lobster rolls, fish tacos, etc. They use good quality fish. There’s another place in Burien called Pigfish Cafe ( https://www.pigfishcafeburien.com/), that I’ve heard good things about, but haven’t been yet. Obviously there’s Wally’s in Des Moines, but their quality is all over the place…

Walley's was good the last time I went there but I usually end up going myself or with friends as my parents who are pretty left leaning are boycotting Walley's for political reasons, so they haven't been there in a long time.

Bennett's in West Port has delicious fish and chips. No idea what that chippie word you are using is though.

I prefer my cod fresh, just call the galley when I want fish and chips and I get it whenever I want. There is a huge difference in what I bring home and what you can get after it’s been frozen, thawed and frozen again. Nothing better than fresh.

We go there when we go camping at Ft Stevens. I dont eat fish but my kids love the place. The owner is a cool guy. 2nd friendly and all. My daughter lives maybe 100 yards away, husband Coast Guard. I get the mix each time, a lot of greasy food!! Mix is 2-4 types whatever they have fresh. Halibut, cod, salmon, albacore, and usually one of the Pacific snapper/rock fish varieties. Tuna can be a little dry if they don't take it out early, so never order it if the owner is NOT there. Last time we visited I cooked a pasta toss with 2-3 leftover pieces of the fish cut up. Wow was really good. Pasta well drained and oiled a bit, so was dry. Throw in some capers, parsley, onion and garlic add oven reheated fish at the table last minute before serving - stayed crunchy!
