Just reviving this because I got myself a pellet grill. I'm looking for 100% pure hickory or fruit wood, and not "100% hardwood" box of chocolate mix with oils like Traeger pellets. Anyone know of pure pellets other than Lumberjack?
fyi - Fruitwood is a blend of woods, that said it is usually pure fruity woods like Apple & cherry and in the case of LJ ONLY those two woods in it.
As far as 100% and what's on the bag with no mystery wood (aka 100% Hardwood), the only ones I know of are : Lumberjack, Cookinpellets, BBQ Delight, Cabelas (made by Lumberjack with proprietary blends) and Smokering. That said LJ does make some blends (apple, mesquite & pecan) that are not just the flavor wood, but they use Red oak as those filler wood (80%oak, 20% flavor wood) The other blends they make are custom and only the woods on label: Competition blend (Maple, hickory, cherry). The cool thing about LJ is that they do not just take premade pellets of each flavor and dump together in a bag to make a mix. They actually grind the individual trees together in the process so every pellet has every flavor in it.
I think Weber may have or be coming out with a pellet and possibly made by LJ as well. (I received a shipment with weber markings on the exterior packaging of the pallet.) But I do not know if LJ will be making ALL of them or if they are hiring out a number of plants, so take that with a grain of salt.

I'll post this one up again from the smoker thread...
Unless you are going to cook side by side with the different brands, you won't be able to tell the difference.... I wonder how much of a difference moisture content makes vs burn rate/smoke production for the flavor differences..... I've been more than happy with the Bear Mountain and the Kingsford pellets in various flavors - don't hesitate if you find them close by for a good price. There is no reason to get all fan boi-ish about your pellets --- prep and seasoning more than makes up for any pellet difference.
Safeway carries only the BM blends but they do have Kingsford single flavors. Cash and Carry/Chef Store carries all of the BM flavors (when in stock) but no blends for a decent price.

I picked up some Oak Pellets from Larry when he was closing down and finally tried them. I really like the smell and flavor from those Oak pellets, it was really nice.
I did Country style ribs yesterday and then a reverse seared Ribeye with them today. Give Oak pellets a try, they were good!

I've been saying that for a while.... oak is a really nice smooth smoke flavor that can stand by itself and mixes really well too. I much prefer oak over hickory myself.
How long before you try the pecan?????

So if you want to be a Dick, there's an anti-2A sporting goods chain out there that carries Lumberjack. I hate them for their ass-kissing of the gun grabbers, but I love me some Lumberjack pellets. Hopefully, I can find another source before I run out.
