It has pretty much gotten to where vodka is my go-to alcohol these days. Back in my youth, Smirnoff was acceptable, with Stoli as the "fancy stuff". I've tried Absolute, Belvedere and Skyy, and a few boutique brands, but had pretty much settled on Gray Goose being my #1. Several years ago, I did a blind test with my family between Absolute, Stoli and Gray Goose. Every person picked Goose as the the smoothest. A few months back, I was buying a bottle of Gray Goose at Total Wine and the Vodka Guy walked up and recommended that I buy a bottle of Gallant Vodka instead. He said that if I didn't think it was as good as Gray Goose, he'd buy it back from me. Okay... I took it home and did a blind taste test of it against Gray Goose. Honestly, I couldn't tell which one was which. For 2/3 the price of Goose, I'll pick Gallant every time now.

What do you like?

I had a bottle of Olympia vodka recently. Very very clean. Almost tasteless. It was impressive!

Belvedere, Polish made Vodka. You want smooth? Try some and it's not expensive.

Hardy har Mr. “OMG Evan Williams!”

Make a vodka cran with that Oly vodka. It’s like drinking cranberry juice with a little heat. Lime twist is a nice touch or add a little club soda for a nice summer “pinky up” kind of drink. Make sure to add extra vodka if you put in club soda. Gotta keep your proportions right.

They make a 4x's distilled version too. Try that one, all the rest will pale in comparison.

Last I checked there is no correlation between price and quality for vodka. That doesn't mean there aren't differences, but the bad acetone characteristics of low quality vodka can be apparent in high end brands as super clean characteristics in low end brands.

Personally I use whatever cheapest stuff if I'm cooking something like Vodka sauce, for cocktails I personally use Stoli or Tito's honestly because I like dealing with glass bottles, and Tito's for "buy American" reasons, but the guy seems to actually care about the quality of his vodka.

If I am gifting a bottle to someone Chopin is probably the top pick.

Well, you know, if you insist then I just might have to. But just because you insisted.

For a cheap and relatively clean vodka Platinum 10x distilled for $18 otd is tough to beat. Don’t buy the 7x. It tastes like someone poured everclear over dirty potato peels then bottled it.
