I have brewed lots beer and made plenty of cider and wines.

Distilling I have not done. Recommended books? Resources? Your Pictures?

To start off with it is federally illegal for the little guy...

That said, home distiller forum has some good advice. Any cider or wine will distill out, higher the stating alcohol the better, think lots of sugar, and a tolerant yeast. A homemade reflux and parrot can be made from plumbing supplies, a keg and propane burner(like for cooking a turkey with).

Pretty safe, throw the first cup away, it tastes nasty and has the bad alcohols that could make you blind in large amounts.

I have not looked at the statute for a long time but the number I remember for some reason is 120 gallons per person you are allowed to make you just can't sell it. I have made beer and wine and have some bottles of wine that I have aged just shy of 30 years. I used five gallon plastic food grade buckets with the o ring seal lid for my fermentation vessel. I just use a hole saw to cut a hole through the lid and use a common airlock fitted through a rubber cork that fits the hole in the lid.

I was think distilling beverage EtOH is federally illegal still (pun intended) - legal for WA state. Owning a still is completely legal.

I was watching a bunch of vids on distilling -- thinking about it being a fun and maybe useful hobby/pastime....
This guy has a really good series on stills/distilling/fermenting --- I learned alot just watching his vids. Be forewarned -- its best to set the player at 2X speed for his vids....

There are a couple of other guys channels that will pop up once you start watching one....

I’ve brewed beer and made hard cider. It’s been a few years on beer (brown ales, grevensteiner, and wittebier).
Last two years almost exclusively hard ciders.
There’s a lot I don’t know but happy to help if you have questions I can answer.

I've been brewing beer and cider for over a decade. I haven't been brewing as much the past few years as I have in the past. I've gone to a number of national homebrewer conferences and entered some competitions with success. I enjoy brewing a lot, but I just haven't had the time, or the space in my garage to brew.
