There is nothing wrong with Old #7, but try the Gentleman's Jack --- that will blow you away compared to #7. I was grabbing Jack's single barrels barrels for a while and they were hit and miss --- but you can't go wrong with Gentleman's.
I tried my like hell to learn how to like scotch in my 30s, but that just wasn't happening.... Somehow I started to develop the taste for bourbon tho - started with jack and cokes - moved on to to jack on the rocks.... Never really cared for Beam, but Wild Turkey and Old Grandad really had some good flavor - really appreciate them now. Can't beat a good bourbon. I need to try the kirkland bourbon --- I've heard good things about it.

That was a nice summary video, highlighting the different types and processes. I like a good Scotch, Irish, American Single Malt or Rye now and then. But my heart belongs to bourbon. Jack Daniel’s isn’t bourbon, btw. And I just can’t drink JD. I don’t really like most Tennessee whiskeys except for Chattanooga Whiskey.

Luckily, I hate the taste of alcohol, so that precludes me from buying cheap shit.
That being said, some of the sweeter ones like JD vanilla or JD honey, go REALLY well with Coke, or even better still, with Dr. Pepper.
A fifth will last me 6 months+

Try some Aberlour 12. It's one of my favorites. Scotch has so many flavor profiles that it was difficult for me to find something that I liked too.
Yeah - not knowing is the hardest part. I never really cared for Johnnie back then, but I think I could appreciate it now. I kept trying the odd ball ones that were smoky --- I could never figure that out - it tasted like they poured it into an ashtray.... just not for me. The thing I always hated about scotch was that you would always wake up the next day still tasting it and smelling it coming out of your pores - same with Beam - that gets old real quick.
I was kinda bummed that I couldn't find any Kirkland bourbon at costco yesterday.... I would've given it a shot.... or two..... or more.

Give Irish whiskey a try, especially Jameson for a starter. Irish whiskies are generally very smooth without the smokiness of some scotches. Plus, they're generally cheaper than good Scotch. If you like bourbon, Costco has a Tennessee sour mash whiskey in 1.75L bottles at a decent price. I just finished a bottle of that and have nothing bad to say about it. https://imgur.com/r/Costco/UtEA0PS
