I know everyone loves wagyu beef I just don’t get the hype I love a good fatty steak but if there’s hardly any meat there what’s the point in eating it? Maybe I’m just uneducated in the ways of the wagyu but seriously I’d take an elk or venison steak personally or even a porterhouse.

Maybe I’m just uneducated cuz I’ve never heard of it. And yes I too would take a nice venison steak any day of the week.

I buy Wagyu from Snake River Farms and I can taste the difference. Is it worth the HUGE upsell? Probably not, especially if you are a steak sauce person. I have smoked a bit of Wagyu and there is a HUUUGE difference between the costco packers and any grade of the SRF Wagyu. By far the best briskets I have ever had were the packers from SRF.

Cool thread. We just bought a Wagyu tri-tip roast this weekend and cooked on the grill to medium rare. It was good but unconvinced it's worth the upsell from Angus or USDA Choice in that particular cut.
It's always been a bit rich for my taste price wise though I will reserve judgement till trying out a good New York or Ribeye steak in Wagyu.

I just process it as a different meat product that is separate from regular steak. It's not really well suited to the 8-16oz whole steak servings you would have in a western or south american service of beef. It's really a product if its country in Japan which is slivers of beef on top of huge amounts of rice.

Ive been getting some of the best bacon Ive had in a long time, for cheap.
$17.99 for ten pounds of Pendelton Meats bulk box is pretty good stuff.
Ive been getting another one lately for $1.33 a pound ($3.99 for 3lbs) that is extremely good. Good peppered and very meaty.

LMAO American Wagyu. So American Japanese beef? Those cuts on snakeriverfarms look nothing like the cheapest cuts I can get at the local grocery store. In America you can call anything Wagyu and people will pay premium for it. FYI it isn't Wagyu. Also it's rated A1 - A5 not "gold" "black" "rainbow" "fuzzynuts"

Also Kobe is only one of many prefectures that raise cattle in that way.
