 Store burglarized.

We will be closed for most of the day, Friday, the 26th.
At roughly 2:30am this morning we were burglarized. We are currently conducting an inventory and waiting on the investigators to complete their work.
Although no loss of a firearm is acceptable, preliminary checks indicate that the loss was limited.

We will keep everyone informed as best we can.
If you have Facebook check there as Tom is keeping that updated.

Burglaries in general piss me off . . . burglaries of gun stores take it to the next level. :angryfire:

Man that's like the 2nd or 3rd gun store burgled recently.

I remember when I lived in Denver, Dave's guns had a truck driven through the wall, and like 50 guns stolen overnight! I've read about burglars coming in through the roof too! Yikes!

Probably be prudent for a gun store to put up ecoblocks around the exterior of the building, and cage the doors.

That is exactly where I'm coming from. Just 4-5" concrete filled steel pipe, buried 5' under and 3' above every couple feet painted happy rainbow colors is gonna slow most 4th Gen Civics.

You can only do that when the landlord allows it...
The new location already has concrete filled steel pipes in front of the doors. Unfortunately we haven't moved yet.

Every time I read about another gun shop burglary I have the following thoughts:

Time to hire someone to sleep in the store, armed to the teeth. A back room with gun ports that allows him to "clear front" without danger of taking any return fire

And/Or

Build a shop "Soviet Style". Ugly ass'd concrete building with itty bitty windows 12' off the ground. Just there for outside light and maybe ventilation but too small for even a 3 rd grade kid to skinny through. The front door would be a regular door for daytime but at night it would be covered by a cast "blast door" that would look right at home in a Nuclear Missile Silo.

The News Media is not helping either. Yes, the theft of guns from a store is 'news" but reporting the details of how, and how many, seems to encourage more criminals to go for it. Since the News Media is really good at "Fake News" why not publish a story like this: "Thieves attempt to burglarize a gun shop but got more than they bargained for. The owner, having read of the rash of recent thefts hired security to guard the store at night. When burglars were confronted a shootout ensued with all burglars ending up dead."

Sure, it's fake, but maybe a few stories like this might make the burglars think twice (assuming they actually can think).


FWIW, a power tool dealer in So Seattle got tired of being broken into. He had a friend of employee start spending the night in the store. If I recall correctly, one of the burglars ended up dead, or maybe just shot. Either way--------- works for me.

What would be the feasibility of just parking a vehicle in front of the doors and disabling it to prevent someone from doing this kind of thing? I know it's kinda pointless now, but might work for other businesses.

Our company used to do that with semi-trailers. Parked them with back doors against doors in building and "disabled" the Semi's with King Pin Locks.

In a retail store it's hard to park a vehicle at the front door because of any sidewalk that might be there. Also, parking any vehicle there may end up with it in a fire lane and then the store owner ends up with a citation, just for protecting his business.

I know one Gunsmith who for years had Doberman's that spent the night in his shop. One night the Seattle PD had to call him in to get the dog to release a burglar's hand. Dufus had broken through a back door window, reached in to unlock the door, then suddenly had a Doberman latched on to his hand. Jim's dogs didn't bark, they just waited and bit when someone broke in.
