So I'm out in my ammo trough and it dawns on me that I have 3,500 rds AK food and 1 AK rifle. Yet I have 1,000rds AR food and 7 AR rifles. So that's dumb. I'm thinking about trying to trade some of my steel case 7.62x39 ammo for brass cased .223/5.56. What would be a fair trade rate to offer?
I'm thinking 1k steel AK food for 750 brass AR food. Does that sound right?

I value 1K of steel AK food at $200. 1k of brass 223/556 at 300. 750 brass would be in your favor.

Mike, you can buy cases of Federal 5.56 (55gr or 62gr) for $300 on PSA, and get a $0.05/rd rebate from Federal. That's what I'd do. Then you just need to buy a couple more AKs.

You do not have too much x39! Impossibru! As far as exchange (which I do not encourage since it would deplete one for the other) my value rate is $200/k for steel case ball x39, and $300/k for brass 5.56. I haven't shopped recently though. Both are insane values for what we are getting for our money.

I agree that $200 per thousand of 7.62x39 is an ideal target price, but I just don’t see that very often when you factor in shipping. I think $240 or so is more realistic.

Think outside the box. You clearly need more AKs.
Trade value should generally be even or slightly in favor of the person not making the offer IMO. 1000 x39 is about $200-250 or .20-25 cents/round. 1000 556 is about $300 or .30 cents/round, so 750 rounds is about $225.
Your trade is almost perfectly straight across IMO.

7.62x39 is .21 cents per round all day, 5.56 is .30 cents on avg, IMO the person giving up the 5.56 would be giving up 700 rounds to be even trade IMO not taking shipping into consideration which is a wash.. Saying that you can haggle from there.
