Bluing or Darkening Stainless steel

So I have a Stainless 1911 Commander slide I'd like to darken for that two tone look. From what I understand cold bluing won't work. So thoughts on how to blacken or darken

Amazon sells Caswells blackener. Google for hints on how to best use it. Your slide would need to be completely stripped.
