Hi, I am from South Africa.
Came across the site after doing some research about a Colt 1911 series 70 i recently bought. I was hoping someone on the site would be able to tell me more about it as it was made in your country.
Thanks Pieter

Thanks Pieter Welcome to the premier gun forum of Washington State in the good ol' US of A, Pieter. I think if you hang out for a bit or check back, you will find many knowledgeable members with more information on your Colt 1911. Do you have any pictures?

I got it for R2000 so that is about $135. It belonged to an old man that passed away. So his wife was going to have it destroyed.

I tried looking up the S/N of the pistol and I dont know if I am right otherwise please correct me, but from what i could find it was produced in 1918. ( Colt S/N 290,000-450,000 = May 1918 to Oct 24, 1918 ) Spoke to a local gun shop owner and he told me its a nickel finish and that some of the military firearms was refinished etc. So i dont know thats why i decided to see if someone knows more about it. The thing I find strange is that there is no markings on the slide except "property of USA."

There's a forum dedicated to the 1911 that might have some additional help. https://forums.1911forum.comThat's a cool gun, though. Love that you have the box for it. What does "PMP" mean? ETA: looks like I didn't look closely enough at the picture. I thought that the white background was the box. :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Welcome Pieter, and thank you for saving that old Warhorse from destruction. The 1911 is a personal favorite of mine, i hope the wait for your permit isn't too long. Where is it while you wait for your permit? The Widow has it? The Police? How does it work in your Country?

When was it fitted and who did it, but i dont think i will ever know. One good thing is that it is a old one, I just love it when something has some history.

PMP is a ammunition brand. That is just 230gr Ball ammo in there, but its also old as PMP does not make there boxes in that color anymore.
