Two shootings in two days....
Two shootings in two days, and the problem with ‘moral outrage’ Two high-profile shootings in two days – one at an elementary school near Bremerton and the other along a state highway that left a State Trooper dead – have given anti-gunners the launch pad they invariably look for to demand stronger gun laws. http://www.examiner.com/gun-rights-in-s ... al-outrage

Great article Dave. Will there be an audio recording available with your Ken Schram interview?

Re: Two shootings in two days....
Horrible and Shocking. Not the kind of news one wants to hear. Add these with the 19 shootings in Seattle, Port Angeles, and the surrounding area, We have a Criminal problem, Not a Gun Problem. To Bad the Anti's won't address the real problem, and focus on Guns as the evil culprit, not the criminals. I don't hear of anyone trying to ban axes and gasoline. Seems a vicious Murder was committed with these items, and cost the Lives of two Innocent Children, and good riddance to one scumbag... My Thoughts and Prayers go out to the Family of the Fallen Officer. I am not a fan of the Police, But the Trooper was a Father and a Veteran, of which I am both, also...L'Chaim...

My response to the TNT's coming editorial "Child’s shooting shows need for safe gun storage law" Read more here: http://blog.thenewstribune.com/opinion/2012/02/23/childs-shooting-shows-need-for-safe-gun-storage-law/#comment-135651#storylink=cpy Quote: We already have a law to prevent this.
"NO GUNS IN SCHOOLS". It's on the books. Haven't you seen the signs?
It's the talisman, the magical spell, the pixie dust that shields kids from all harm. It works well doesn't it?
Just as well as the rest of the gun control laws in this country. This and the vague proposal for a "safe storage law".
The steps involved are simple:
See tragedy.
React to tragedy.
Enact law.
Law fails to accomplish goal.
Repeat until there are thousand of useless laws on the books that accomplish nothing except to interfere with the rights and pastimes of others (the real goal).

Re: Two shootings in two days....
I am posting this same set of comments also posted to the "Bad week ignites war on guns in Wa." thread. I didn't want to type it out twice, and it applies to both posts. I hate this kind of inflammatory knee jerk hysterical push any agenda response to a tragedy. Really pisses me off. But, here is the rational response.
This happens all the time. Tenured politicians want to do nothing - in perpetuity. Don't rock the boat, don't pursue relevant but politically risky representation of the constituent base, for fear of pissing off a special interest group. Hold on for four years, then lie, cheat, and sling mud on the opponent in order to remain as an inciumbent, feeding at the public trough, safe and easy.
BUT - come up with a situation involving law enforcement, or children, or dogs, or farm animals and combine it with tragedy, well, the gloves are off as the extreme activists, then the politicians, all run screaming to the mikes and cameras, each trying to out do the other in their frenzied attempts to be relevant to the issue. Why ? Because it is a politically neutral story. Safe territory. No one to alienate by foaming at the mouth, trying to be first to suggest new rules and regulations for a minor statistical blip on the radar, but an extremely emotional story all folks can relate to.
Then, next campaign for re - election, the Senator McSnorts and Congressmen Hot-airs can point out their glowing list of accomplishments pertaining to empty laws, and meaningless accomplishments. Why ? In order to deflect scrutiny of a truly dismal track record of true representation of their electoral base in the overwhelmingly highest percentile of elected representatives.
All the safety Nazis come out of the woodwork as well. They scream and yell, and the squeaky wheel gets the political grease. They are like water on stone. Sooner or later, the water wins. Don't believe me ? Look at the Grand Canyon. Water versus rock - water won, hands down. Rules and regulations restricting gun ownership ? Look at Canada, or New York state. More regulation effects the same end result - gun control. It just takes longer to establish a regulatory burden that makes gun control a reality, and the Second Amendment an empty promise.
It is always tragic when a tragic event occurs. It makes any parent or family member an advocate for trying to make sure the same thing does not happen to others. But, careful, rational, unemotional consideration must be employed prior to adding to the already onerous burden of rules governing our lives currently. So far, the only group winning in the USA, are the lawyers. Every one else loses.
