In infantry school, the weapon was in your reach on if you did not break step or cheek to obtain your firearm. If you did not have it on you.

It’s on me till after I take my shower in the evening. Then it has a spot on the table next to the couch till bed time, then the nightstand next to the bed.

In the United States there is an avetage of 2 million home invasions a year and a 1/3 of the time some one is home. That equates to 66 thousand home invasions with some one in the house. And when that hsppens it generally doesn't go good.
I have been carrying everyday/allday for over fifteen years and in my gun is not on me it is on the nightstand next to the bed.
I refuse to be a victim to some piece of shit scum bag.

I'm not arguing your conclusion, i hate scumbags, too; but most stats say an entire yearly average from 1994 to 2010, Is just over a million per year...you're saying twice that, so, was asking for where your stats come from.

Country living is a thing. There is a rifle by the back door (not really "carry").
When out and about on the property, I carry SOMETHING. While I'd like to consistently carry a magnum revolver, it usually ends up being a 9mm from the bedroom. Black bear, cougar, and coyotes are the issue, and mostly to protect the chickens, cats, and dogs. Though I do have a dog or two that I wouldn't miss...but that's a different story.

100% of the time at home, and we live somewhat rural. I wish i could convince my wife to do the same. She is a shooter and VERY gun savvy, but I've never been able to convince her to pack at home. Even when I'm gone. We have 4 alarm systems, one mounted in the house and 3 "on the hoof" as it were. Part of the reason she's comfortable is because of these 3. Now that the middle one is mostly full grown, that's just shy of 500bs of dog. Our front entry door is a "country" door, split in half much like a stable door. The black one could almost step over the door, and almost did when we had an Amazon delivery some years back. The driver walked up to the door with the upper half opened and all 3 walked up to the door and leaned outside jostling for position and making a serious racket. My wife saw the delivery dude throw the package at the door and run back to his rig. Never saw that driver again.
That's the neighbors shop and property, not mine.

That fence doesn't look like much of an impediment to those awesome dogs.

MadPick wrote: That fence doesn't look like much of an impediment to those awesome dogs. Training them to not cross specific boundaries is one of the first things they learn as puppies. Training early and consistent is the key, otherwise they get out of control quickly. That's why many are rehomed, owners didn't train them for how big they WILL be. My wife used to train Tennessee walking horses, so she's very well versed in livestock training . Even at 5'2 110 lbs, they will not cross her. Funny, i'm 6'4 and say....245, they mind me, but not like they do her. There's also an inground invisible fence about 10' past where they are, and they fully respect that. Those collars, at highest setting feel similar to a lawn mower plug wire. Don't ask how i know... Sorry to hijack, back to the carry at home poll......

No, I take it off, but it's never more than a couple feet from me. Or whatever room in I'm in, there's a tool not too far from me.

Yes sir, everyday, and at home, nothing changes, except a rifle comes out of the safe.
Way I figure it, pistol is either on you, or carried from room to room, easier if it's on you. Workin out, sleepin, showering, it's a foot or two away...

No kids at home anymore so, .357 wheel gun within reach of the TV chair, 1911 Springfield mil/spec GI in bedside table, .38+p airweight in the kitchen, and a Charles Daily 12 ga stainless in the pantry and a Beretta FS92 in the garage. All just in case I forget to carry the Sig 938.
