I rely on the "Cake Militia"....Steve is close. :ROFLMAO:

Now having said that, a group of like minded people willing to come to your aid is a good idea.
Though the "Militia" name kind of worries me in the current political environment.

Rules for being a Security Officers are different State to State.

We are setting up to certify members to be Security Officers in WA.

Naturally if you already have the certification (ie: LEO, previous/current employment, Community College courses) them you're already set.

Agree on both points. God forbid if any of us ever had to shoot someone in self defense, what would keep the media from running with this and making it all about the "militia"?

To be clear, your group is authorized to run and certify the firearms qual test? How often/when/where are the qual tests held?

I think I'd want to stay as far away from the word "militia" as possible with your group. Not only would it be like crack for the News Media, private militia's are specifically prohibited in Art 1, Sec 24 of the State Constitution.

"Security Co-operative" may pass the smell test at the AG's office but by the time you pay for liability insurance it might be cheaper for members to invest in either a good alarm system or secure the services of a commercial security service. Personally I decided on a good security system. Too many of my neighbors are oblivious to what goes on in the neighborhood. One even had a car accident in his front yard and didn't know it had happened until the cops knocked on his door to ask if he'd heard/seen anything.

A well regulated militia (aside from the clearly unconstitutional National Guard and neutered organized state militia) being necessary for the security of a free state is outlawed! Do you feel infringed?

Currently we are out-sourcing.

Our Goal is to have a corporate side with independent contracts to fiance the training of new members organically.

Ladies and Gentlemen,

After discussion with counsel pursuant to RCW 38.40.120, admitting no fault, operations are hereby suspended until further notice. The 1st Light Infantry Militia has striven to obey all laws regardless of our agreement with them.

Anyone caring to discuss the matter further concerning the overall legality of RCW 38.40.120 in light of the supremacy of the US Constitution's Second Amendment or other matters brought up in this thread please PM me.

Part of the protection offered by a Security Co-Operative is that initial training is intended to certify you as a Security Officer (not to be confused with a Police Officer).

Obviously this does not offer carte blanche to do what every you want or make you legally infallible. Once you have on record you have been trained in escalation of force and de-escalation you are obliged to act appropriately. However, on the other side you can still right now be held responsible for not using appropriate escalation of force by a reasonable person's standards since ignorance of the law is no excuse.

Thanks for the clarification (and to Jim as well).
