Made my rounds yesterday dropping off bags of garden goodies to both my side and My Wife's side of the family.

A total of just over 17lbs of Tomatoes, 11lbs of Squash, and 13lbs of peppers were passed out. Here is a pic that was taken when we were dividing some up.

OMG that looks good. There's just something about home-grown tomatoes....

There is a downside to having a gardener like JP in the family to deliver the home-grown...
They taste so much better than store-bought that the rest of the year tastes like cardboard.

Tomatoes especially... Walking by the cherry tomato plant and popping a few down... I dread winter right now.

I have a heretical question though. Regarding peppers - does anyone notice a difference between home-grown and store-bought? I don't. I like the idea of home-grown a bunch more, but haven't noticed a flavor difference on those.

I agree that store bought hot peppers really can taste like home grown, but the texture is where the difference is. Peppers in the store often feel rubbery or soft, where a pepper from a garden has a nice crisp snap like a fresh apple. Having them this way make them holdup better when cooking or canning.

By the way, do you buy your plantings anywhere in particular, or just wherever you find a good deal? Just wondering....

Our tomatoes are doing great this year. OTOH, I've not had any luck at all in the last few years with blueberries or huckleberries, maybe because I've tried to grow them in pots.
The wife's chili plants are doing well, but don't know if they will all ripen before it starts to get cooler.

Pots are only as good as the soil. After a while all the good stuff gets stripped away and the plants don't do jack.

The pears are hard as a rock, just the way I like 'em.
The plums are heavenly, and as a bonus make excellent projectiles.
Two of my sons were over today and welts were freely given and received as worked our way through the orchard.
