What to do in a drone attack?

Fri Jan 26, 2024 7:39 pm

So with all the new warfare tech going on all over from Ukraine to Israel and everywhere else.

Scaled up drones can be used to so much more.

Imagine a drone attack at a large venue? Coordinated and even computer pre controlled.

The drones don’t even have to be filled any bomb material. I mean a large enough drone hitting a power relay or oil refinery or water power plant.

I mean several years ago Seattle did a drone fireworks show. Meaning take that tech and one can synchronize drones for one mission or several coordinated in one area (whatever the control unit).

I wonder if they are going to track large drone purchases? Like they do with ammonia nitrate etc

The scary part is there are folks way ahead of me. Several papers online.

Needs to be a remake of the "Screamers" movie, with drone swarms. Or "The Most Dangerous Game" with drone swarms. Or... "Forest Gump" with dro... never mind.

If you haven’t. Check out videos of people mounting flame throwers and firearms.

Home made stuff. Right off the shelf with just the right know-how and wrong intent. Things can go bad really quick.

You know in movies where the music changes and the screen cuts out. Just listen to a drone the next time above your head… some food for thought. It may just not be taking just video. Lol

Drones with IR/thermal and weapons give me the willies. What can you do? Often so quiet as to be masked by ambient sounds, they can sneak up on you easily. Once on your tail they are faster and more nimble than the average human, let alone a sixty+y.o. geezer with bad knees.

Shoulder fired EMP weapons? Can you build them in your garage?

Coincidentally to your post, I went window shopping entry level (unarmed) drones today. The cheapest one I found with a camera was around a hundred dollars. You have to pony up a thousand or more to vet anything durable and with "features".

Pretty cool stuff talking about camo and hiding from drones:

Group I train with has been playing with drones for some time and it is quite easy to not worry about targeting drones. Played with nv and thermal, and it is astounding how debilitating it is to a drone to be in a thicket of trees. They spent several hours trying to recon a fellow training group, and it took high vis placards in broad daylight to find the group with 4k video feed. So it's very dependent on terrain how effective a drone can be. Very different store with either nv or thermal after dark, but a dug in lp/op covered up well with no visible fires does wonders for hiding from the drone as well. In a big city or even smaller town would be a very different situation

Attack drones:

The hell of it is, in combat, it isnt even necessarily the dropping of grenades to worry about. They are used for artillery spotting too, and they are pretty hard to hit since you have a hard time judging distance and cant see where your bullets land.

I think the easy thing, is to either broadcast a hot signal on their frequency so they crash, or send up a counter-drone to attack it. A small handheld drone with signal seeking or noise seeking could take out a bigger one pretty easy.

Ofcourse drones can be a liability too, since they have to return home at some point.

Get your ass to the range and start shooting trap and skeet.

I salted drones throughout all three of my books. Those, plus DEWs (directed energy weapons) are the present and future game changers of conventional warfare.

Shooting at them is a great option if the situation allows. Observation drones will work quite differently than hunter/killer drones (both human controlled and not).
