The concept was: You are awakened, naked to a smoke-filled chaotic scene (house fire, meteor strike...whatever) and you must evacuate in 60 seconds or less. The idea was to have a bag an arms length away from your bed, which would allow you to exit the building in your befuddled and nude state to escape the immediate threat. Extra crispy toast! I've had this same thought. What can/should I grab if the house is on fire and I have less than a minute to get the hell out? Answer: wife and kids. That doesn't leave a lot of time to grab a go-bag, much less fill one. I guess it makes a good argument for already having one at the ready. I'll have to think about this some more.
