So when I was in the military we wore bump helmets when on small boats and doing boarding's into ships, vessels ect.
I can't remeber what brand it was but I can tell you it's saved my ass one day. Prior to that I hated wearing the Damned thing. After that day... I never complained again.
Fast fwd to present time. I train with a group of like minded individuals, we did some "vehicle" training as well as some other drills recently. Couple guys where wearing ACH helmets.
During our training I asked why. They pointed out if something happened and say the vehicle rolled or involved in some sort of accident a good helmet may save your noodle. Couple of the guys suggested just getting a bicycle style helmet and painting it.
As well couple of the guys are set up for night vision(also on my wish list).
I've been thinking bout picking up a helmet ever since. I've seen ACH helmets at the local surplus shop for bout $100.
Then today, saw a photo posted on here of someone wearing a bump helmet. And I'd rather rock one of them.
Don't need it to be ballistic, not worried about it trying to stop a bullet, just "slips trips falls" and smacks to the cranium, and to run some night vision on.
Now doing a little research, there's ballistic and non ballistic. leaning towards non ballistic A.) for weight B.) price C.) ballistic isn't "needed" for my criteria.
So I'm curious if any of you guys run one, ballistic or non ballistic, pros and cons, quality, price, ect ect ect.
Needs to be able to take a hit, and support night vision set ups, comfort and the ability to run a headset would also be nice, not a deal breaker, but nice.
Thanks

not sure what the difference is but what about those kayak helmets generally around 40 to $60 and 100+ for upper level. Pretty sure you could get night vision set up some how like they do with gopro. Just throwing an option out there.

It seems the way the chin straps for any helmet used to mount night optics to are designed in a way to help prevent your helmet from slipping fwd due to the weight

I bought a German surplus kevlar helmet (recent manufacture) when KeepShooting.com had them. Then bought a flektarn helmet cover with an order from Flecktarn.com UK

I have a Pro-Tec helmet for skydiving, a hard hat for SAR, and a helmet for rock climbing. They are all SHTF usable.

Few weeks old on the thread... But I have an original small boat helmet from the CG still... For a bump Tacprogear actually makes a decent one... If you can swing $300... The Team Wendy LTP helmet is awesome for a bump helmet. Then you get into Ops-Core and they get expensive... http://shop.tacticalshit.com/tactical-a ... listic-new

I have a PASGT helmet personally. Bump caps have there place for sure, but if I feel I need a helmet then I want serious protection.
