I have put gas checks onto powder coated bullets. Push the whole mess through the bullet sizer.

I use gas checks for full power rifle loads on my coated bullets. Most of these are fired from AR15 or AR10 platforms. I've had good accuracy up to ~2600-2800 fps with a 168gr cast/coated in 308 for example; the same bullet & load without the gas check doesn't lead the barrel but accuracy is poor.
I don't bother with gas checks for subsonic loads any more though, 240gr in 300 Blk for example.
I'm still using gas checks on coated bullets in the 460 S&W revolver too, mainly because I haven't tried to figure out if it'll shoot well without them. In smaller revolvers, it probably depends how hot the load is, among other factors. You'll have to try it and find out what works for you.
