I've been discussing some of the steps of the wet tumbling process with PMB, and I decided that rather than trying to describe what I do with words, I'd just make a video and show it.

This video is deliberately rather long and detailed, to show the little steps that seem so obvious when you've been there / done that, but can be so baffling when you're just getting started.

I invite conversation on this. Do you do it differently? Better? More efficient?

Let's share ideas. :thumbsup2:

Lot of effort in filming and uploading that. Thank you.

I was asking because I have so many steps of transfer, decant, rinse, transfer, separate, rinse, catch that pin, separate again because a pin escaped, pull out the magnet, count the pins, verify the number lost, transfer new pins from inventory, re-separate for any last errant pins and water from the rinse, etc.
I am not a fan of the RCBS separator. Steve mocked me for my crabbiness about the design.

I do basically the same, more lemishine, less wash and wax, much bigger tumbler. I run for 2 hours. Dry on towel overnight after hot water rinse.

Put a magnet by the drain before dumping the water. Good job on the video.

Similar to me. But I don't pour in the sink before the separator. I find the pins tend to adhere to the brass a bit. If the bottom tub of the RCBS separator is filled with water, the pins fall out easier. Then to the sink for a final rinse before drying

I do basically the same. But only run it for 30 minutes. I cant tell the difference between 30 and 2 hours. My cat gets pissed when I use mine. The bathroom in the shop is his hovel and he hates the noise.

Nah, we are flying out in the morning. Towncar is picking us up at 7:30 AM, i am staying up so i'm tired and sleep on the plane.
Though it's hard for me to do that, sleep comes in short sections for me in a plane.
It's only 9:21 PM On Maui right now, so the likely hood of your above suggestion is a real possibility in 24 hours.

Oooh, that's early. Say aloha to the tan skinned cuties at the airport for me and if things get real freaky...well...you've got my #

ps. $5 per drink on the flight is a bargain. I never arrive sober in a foreign land. :cheers2:

I have a Frankford Arsenal wet tumbler. I like the screw on ends. I also use a frankford separator similar to yours.

I tumble as you did, but my rinse, separate process is a little different. I normally work in the shop and open the door and use the hose and spray nozzle.

After tumbling, I carefully drain off the nasty water and take care not to pour out any SS pins. I then screw on the screen/grid style rinsing caps. Then I put the canister in the 5 gallon bucket that the separator turns in.n Then I spray and shake/agitate water thru the canister with the hose while the 5 gallon bucket catches the nasty water and any pins that shake out. I turn the canister over a few times and repeat the process. Then I go and pour off the nasty water without pouring out any SS pins.

Then I pour the cases out of the canister and into the rotary separator and start cranking.

Then I spread the cases out on some aluminum foil trays and put them in the dehydrator (commercial tray type) overnight. I put the SS pins into a ss dish and put it on the woodstove over night to dry them out.

Great video Steve. Do you remember the name of that timer? I need a smaller timer.

I pretty much do the same thing, I used a 1 gal milk jug cut in 1/2, I fill the 1/2 jug with hot water in the sink, I then pull out the brass (making sure the pins don't come with them) and put them in the hot water.

after a good rinsing in hot water, I let them sit for a few days at room temp.

I clean all my brass weeks or months before reloading, so they are plenty dry by the time I go to reload them
