I just checked LoadData.com (membership) and there wasn't one recipe of 94 searches for 231, under 5 grains. Everything was between 5 and 7gr. As Bxc said, try more powder. If that doesn't work, I've owned a few 1911's in my life that absolutely hated 185 grain bullets. Other times it was the slide spring that needed replacing and in other cases it was mag springs that needed replacing.
But start with upping the powder charge first.

You can get away with light loads by reducing the strength of your 16# recoil spring. Wolff sells a variety pack of 1911 recoil springs, including 12#, I believe.
The pistol wasn't designed to run like that but bullseye shooters do it.
Be careful not to fire full strength loads in it until you've put the 16# spring back in.
