Here's what 5.7x28 brass looks like after 18 hours in the wet tumbler with Armor All Wash & Wax and stainless steel media:

Image

My intent was to get the lacquer coating off of the brass. It took a looong time, but 99% of it is now gone.

The lacquer on this brass was already damaged because I hit it too hard with Simple Green at one point. It was either recycle it or experiment with it, so I'm going with the experiment.

It's fairly slippery with the Armor All on it. Next step is to load it up and see if it will feed in the PS90 mags. Wish me luck.

Have to agree that is really shiny *protecting eyes from the glare*

Just received my first bottle of Armor All Ultra Shine Wash & Wax yesterday from Amazon. I'll be working up a batch of 38 Special brass shortly in the tumbler and looking forward to trying out the Armor All. Nothing like shiny brass.

I may be incorrect, but I thought the lacquer coating was supposed to remain there, as it helps with the functioning of the rifle, both in the magazine and for extraction? Looks shiny though.

You are not incorrect. Hence the term "experiment." :mulletslayer:

Hopefully this stuff will be slippery enough to function. We'll see.

Someone should take a picture...

Aerosol a little Teflon or silicone on them for the slippery factor if you think this will be missing on the stripped brass

So when you're not getting lacquer off your brass, what do you wet tumble with (besides the Armor all wash & wax)? Or is that all you normally use, just not as long? I've been using the Frankfort Arsenal Brass cleaner. I'm almost out and I finally got some Armor all. Just wondering if I'll need anything to put in with it?

Tim, I typically put just a little bit (maybe 1/2 teaspoon max?) of Lemishine powder in there as well. However, that's a carryover from when I was using dish detergent, and I haven't tried the Armor All by itself.

I was thinking of mixing the LemiShine, Dawn, and Armor All all together in the wet tumbler. Has the dish detergent proved unnecessary in your experience?

Yes, my brass looks great with just the Armor All and Lemishine. I see no reason to use the dish detergent.

My rounds on the left ... ugly FN factory ammo on the right, lol.

I'm loading with pulled V-max bullets, so they're not perfect but they're good enough. thumbsup
