I'd like to know more about 9mm bullet differences. (or any caliber, really)

How does Weight/Muzzle Energy ft·lb/Muzzle Velocity ft/sec. affect the kick of the gun or sting recoil?

Examples

RBCD Ammunition Ballistics
Round 9mm
Type TFSP
Weight 60
Muzzle Energy ft·lb 539
Muzzle Velocity ft/sec. 2010

vs

Blazer Ammunition Ballistics
Round 9mm
Type JHP
Weight 147
Muzzle Energy ft·lb 295
Muzzle Velocity ft/sec. 950

I pretty much picked the two most opposite rounds I could find.
Which one kicks the most vs stings the most?
The gun being used would be a single shot, non-semi auto.

**EDIT TITLE & DEFINITION**

Recoil calculator.

BTW: What is a non-semi-auto? Bolt gun? A break barrel like a Thompson Contender or CVA Scout?

Derringer, as in Bond Arms.

I'll look over that web site.

It might be better to describe what you’re trying to accomplish, rather than ask a question half-way through your thought process.

I did ask the question.

Which cartridge has more of a kick? Which one has more of a slap or sting?
Light weight with warp 6 speed or heavy weight that's slower than Friday night traffic in Seattle?

I didn’t say you didn’t ask a question, I suggested that you state what you’re trying to accomplish.

Like, “is anyone aware of what the recoil differences in 9mm grain/weight on a Bond Arms Derringer, or is the barrel too short for a significant difference?

Just trying to help…

Gotcha.

My wife has very tender hands and a scar tissue on her right thenar space.
So, she says shooting 9mm and .22 handguns hurts her evenly.
That’s recoil-wise.

Penetration-wise, I believe those two loads mentioned in the OP would penetrate about the same depth, if projectiles are the same kind/type; e.g., lead-core round nose FMJ.

P.S.: I had C for Physics in “High”-school. :wink05:

Alrighty then...
I fixed the title of the thread and the definition of what I was looking for.

RECOIL was the word I was going after.

(Yes, I'm a dummy, as you all know)

Generally, the heavier is going to kick more. I know that is the case for rifle.

With stubbies, something in low recoil or less powder will always make things better.

I toyed with the recoil calculator for a while last night. While bullet weight (bw) does affect the recoil impulse, in a given caliber the difference didn't seem to be great. (although reading "recoil impulse 7.2lbs", or that a difference between two loads is 1/2lb, is difficult to relate what that might feel like.)
