So this question of what .22LR ammo is best... came up and so I am posting parts of my post here for reference for folks to consider.

What .22LR ammo is the best:

Depends on which .22 - any that will function your firearm at a reasonable price.

For full size or where the whole slide must be activated (P22 or Sig Mosquito) versus where only a small block moves (Mark series or BuckMark, etc) one must consider using a bit more to activate and cycle the P22 / Sig Mosquito type .22 firearms

But in the end if your gun works with what your are shooting... then that's all it matters.

For Steel or any competition... you need to take the ammo factor out (for reliabilty and function and accuracy)... you have enough stacked against you... you don't need your gun not working to boot.

Also in relative terms... function and cost is reality.

If we could all afford Eley Match ammo ($15 for a box of 50) then we wouldn't be having much of a discussion.

Cost:
As for cost... what is ideal (granted that all other things are somewhat equal - function and accuracy)

.22LR ammo (per round)
Cheap side -- $0.03 - $0.05 this equates to about $16.50 - $22 for a 550 round box
Mid range -- $0.06 - $0.09 this equates to $7.50 - $9 for a 100 round box (CCI)
High range -- $0.11 - $0.20+ this equates to $65 for a 500 round box

The major manufacturers will typically go through an annual sale of some sort which you'll see in different stores selling large quantities off. I remember when GI Joes used to sell the Remington Golden Bullets 525 packs for $8.50 a box (now I think they run about $24) I used to buy them by the case (12 boxes = 6300 rounds) for a little over $100

Right now you can get CCI Mini Mags like at the Sportsco Tent sale for $5.88 for their 100 round packs.
Good deal!

And no I don't use Remington Golden Bullets anymore (cost and function)... you can get better ammo these days for a lot cheaper.

Check around and keep your eye out. When a good deal strikes - you need to jump on it. I remember last year Cabela's had a deal on Federal Bulk 2100 rounds for $0.03 each ($15 a pack of 500) plus free shipping.

Good post Kim.

My wife's P22 chews through Golden Bullets, but chokes on Federal Bulk...nature of the beast I suppose.

Find out what you gun likes, then watch the sales.

I mail ordered a case (5,000) rounds of CCI Blazer, individual not bulk pack, for $159 delivered. That's about $0.03/round and according to the CCI tech I spoke to the Blazer is quite similar to the Mini-Mags, less the copper wash. Same primer/powder.

I'm in! I've been looking for a good price on several thousand rounds of CCI Mini-Mags or something similar...and I wouldn't mind picking up a few thousand rounds of that subsonic ultra quiet stuff as well.
