Might be interested here, but haven't seen much discussion about logistics. I assume the fish would come in to Lynnwood where you are?

We'd then either need every person to come get their own fish, or get a pony express going.

While I'm all about fresh, would it make more sense to have it frozen to we can all cook on our our schedule, rather than throwing together a swordfish bake with only 4 hours notice, or is getting it frozen simply blasphemy?

so the offer comes up for fresh fish from warm waters off Hawai'i and you're wanting to freeze it for logistics.

Crawl back in whatever hole you came out of, philstine.

:ROFLMAO:

No, my question was more about logistics that freezing. Perhaps I'm just not hip enough to understand the awesomeness of fresh Hawaiian fish.

I'll leave the Hawaiin punch to you all and go back to my cool aide.

:ROFLMAO: love the pic!

....it's just paying extra to get it fresh is kinda ruined by freezing it. You can probably get the frozen cheaper because the shipping isn't as expedited/critical and the packaging won't be as fancy.

Hey guys, sorry for the delay. Been in the Caribbean for a while and just got back. I'll talk to my buyer tomorrow and see if I can get a firm date. It's going to happen - just a matter of when.

My mouth is watering just thinking of fresh Tuna with just a dash of salt and course black pepper and a couple dill sprigs cooked med/rare in butter. But with my job making it to Lynwood to pick it up fresh probably wouldn`t happen

It would come to my office in Seattle on east Lake Union. I think the most practical thing would be for it to arrive on a Friday because I'm assuming most of you would be free to meet on a Saturday. I can receive the fish (all vacuum-packed) and put it in a large cooler with plenty of ice to hold it for 24 hours. I really need to figure out where everyone will be coming from so we can coordinate the most logical meeting point. For obvious reasons, I will not be making home deliveries at these prices.

I'd be in for some albacore.

Albacore is a bit pricey on the auction right now and the quality is just OK, according to the buyer. He said he would pass on it and get Tuna instead, but if you want it and we have it available when we place the order, I can add it.

No shark. We stopped buying it because we just don't have many customers who ask for it.

All of those should be doable. Do you want whole skipjack or fillets? They average about 4-7# whole. Shelf life on skipjack is not impressive, so have a plan to eat it or freeze it quickly.

tigershark wrote:

I could probably get some Opihi, but you'd probably be the only one eating it. I think they are nasty, but I'm just a haole from da mainland, so what do I know. :hangloose:

So I got an update on market prices. Everything is about where I expected it to be in my estimates, although it sounds like Marlin is cheaper than I anticipated. Opah is a bit on the higher side, as is Mahimahi. The best values are probably going to be Striped Marlin, Ono (Wahoo), Tuna, and Swordfish. I'm talking to my boss now about how this would go down. A lot of things have to be well-orchestrated for it to work out, and the more people in the mix the more complicated it gets.

Hi Guns4Liberty,
Where were you in the Caribbean? Was in Dominican Republic this summer. Was awesome, lots of drinking and relaxing on beach. Was also on charter boat when we all caught a 300 lb Blue Marlin one day.

I've been staying out of this to date cuz money is tight though am reconsidering. Would be interested in couple pounds Tuna, Striped Marlin, Opah, and most definitely Swordfish. What would be the minimum order quantities?

Also I'm at customer site in Austin, TX from early May till May 14th though have access to email and WaGuns while there. I'd be in if the delivery date to Seattle is May 15th or later. Just let me know although perhaps have a friend available to pick up in Seattle while I'm out of town.

Have you given any thought to whether we would need to pre-pay with C/C or pay you at pickup? Good either way here.

Thanks,
Dave

I'm still in and good to go, but will probably cancel the skipjack. Any update?

Sorry guys, I've been sick as a dog the past few days. I'm tentatively planning to do this for May 15. In the interest of simplicity, I may have to limit the options to a handful of species (tuna, swordfish, blue marlin, striped marlin, mahimahi, and ono). The bottomfish are just too expensive right now, and the other pelagic species are too volatile price-wise to make a solid plan. I'm talking with my boss today about how payment is going to work. I'll have an update later.
