Hi folks,

Time for another whisky dinner. This time, it will be at The Iron Duck (our North Bend location). Some really great single malts (Balvenie 25yr is on the list) paired with fantastic food (we put the menu together today).

This would be a great gift for the dads out there. (It’s on 06/16, the day before Father’s Day).

Hope to see you there.

You had me at "Lagavulin," and I suspect the Distiller's Edition will be even better. :thumbsup2:

And that Balvenie 25 . . . jeebus . . . now I know why I've never tried it before:

I'll be there, on a hot date with Rutilate. :4couple:

Oh heck yeah . . . another great night! Great food, great whisky and some master education and entertainment by Breck. thumbsup

Here's the menu for the night:

Image

We started with the salmon. The barley might seem a little odd and it didn't look like much to start, but it sure was good, and the texture was fantastic as it was just a little crusty on the outside.

Next up was the "FOIAPPLES," with a piece of fois gras on top:

And then the duck prosciutto with the pear ricotta and apricots:

Then along came the ribeye . . . OMG . . . and the tomatillo sauce, and the smoked Walla Walla onion. WOW. I could have eaten a lot of this. I was especially intrigued by the onion; I picked up one layer after the next with my fork, and it was moist and SWEET. Fantastic.

Mmmmmm bleu cheese:

And what could be better than a cherry-based dessert and a glass of Lagavulin Distiller's Edition that has been finished in a sherry cask? You're right, there's not much better than that.

Thank you, Breck! Nicely done.

Looks great, guys!

Thanks for the pics, Madpick!

I've mentioned before how appreciative I am of your representation of the evening :cheers2:

I love that your write-up talks about something not necessarily looking or sounding great, but tasting great.

I've had meals where a chef tries to show how clever they are, and things look & sound great, but aren't ....

To me, talent is just what you represented....

Kudos to the Iron Duck & the Breckster, and to you for your great pics & story :thumbsup2:

As I told Breck, this was very nearly my first exposure to good single malt Scotch. Here I am, 50 years old, and had my very first drink of alcohol about 2 years ago, after having left a high-demand religion. This is an whole new world of fun experiences!

I _really_ enjoyed Breck's knowledge of the areas and especially the specific distilleries that produced these. I love learning, and imbibing while learning was fascinating. The notes I took along the way certainly became more sparse near the end!

Clearly my palate is not suffiiently refined for the $1000/bottle Balvenie. I'm a fan of the Auchentoshan Three Wood. The peaty Lagavulin was great to taste and is a fantastic conversation starter, but I don't know that it would be my first purchase.

Well done, Breck!
