Due to the forest fires, smoke, and general mayhem that seems to be everywhere, the Forest Service is postponing this event. We're looking at dates in October, exact date TBD at the moment.

Stay tuned.

The indicated location on the map below is the main FS70 "lower pit" shooting area. The fires are getting very close . . . .

definitely not a good time to be up in greenwater less than mile from the pit

On the bright side, I'm happy it was postponed because now I have a chance to make it. I was bummed to find out when the cleanup was planned for because I was out of town and just got back. I thought I'd check in to see how it went and of course it makes sense it was postponed because of the fires... I'm surprised I didn't think of that.

I was at the gravel pit once, several years ago, and was shocked at how dirty it was. I thought it'd be good to go again and haul out more than I brought in, as a courtesy, so it was nice to see this group organizing cleanups and trying to take care of the place.

Anyway, as long as it's back on at some future date, I hope to be there and go from being a long time lurker to actually meeting some of y'all (and trying out some new acquisitions of course).

I drove over the 410 right after they re-opened it on Thursday afternoon. Still lots of smoke and smoldering areas, even with the significant rainfall that was coming down. All FS roads are closed except to locals, LE or FS.

Me and some buds tried to hit greenwater today and they had fs70 closed down with 3 trucks and Forest rangers saying it was closed "because it's currently a helicopter LZ" not sure what's going on but we also didn't really dig much deeper into it.

Both sides of hwy 410 are still closed to the public and the forest service has asked that we look elsewhere for target shooting at the moment. There is no reopen date set and even with the rain we've had they're still fighting pockets of fires. Until the fires are gone and fire fighting equipment moved out of the area they really don't want anybody down there so spread the word to look elsewhere for now and i'll update when if anything changes.
