Re: Whisky Tasting & Learning - To benefit DocNugent's widow

Looks like I'm not gonna make it, fellas. I got out of one family thing only to be roped into another. As much as I like Scotch and hanging out with you sorry bastards, family comes first. Tie one on for me!

The wife just informed me that she is coming too.

So, I've been deliberating about this for a couple of days. I'd really like to go, but it's an hour's drive home, potentially with a belly full of booze, plus I had a bit of a health scare last week (trip to ER), which I'm still on the mend from, so, as much as I'd like to show up, I think I'm going to bow out.

Thanks for the update, David. I hope you're doing okay!

Doesn't look like I will make the trip up either.

Instead of going to the car show it was decided (not by me) that we needed to dig out beside the house and clear some crap so we can expand the driveway.

I'm pooped. I sure ain't 18 anymore.

I don't think driving up there would be the smartest thing to do.

I'm sorry to hear that, but thank you for the update!

We're setting up now. Come to the blue dot, that's where the cabana is:

A very nice gathering and I can't say enough about Breck. That man knows his Whiskey! Thanks to all who contributed and those that attended.
Makes me proud to be a Member here.
It was very nice that Doc's Widow attended. A very nice lady who managed to attend in her time of grief and meet some of the members of the forum that her husband thought highly of.
This is what this forum is about. We have our differences, but I like to think there is a Family here.

Lovely evening, everyone. Thanks for coming. I hope you all had as much fun as I did....and I really hope you all learned a thing or two that you didn't already know about whisky and at the very least, gained a greater appreciation for the spirit. (This doesn't apply to you, Jay. You know as much about whisky as I do.)

OH HECK YEAH! I thought that was an absolutely fantastic evening . . . fun times with friends, great Scotch with a chaser of education, and of course it was all for a good cause. :thumbsup2:

A huge thanks to all who donated in one form or another!

We had a good turnout:

Breck
cmica
usrifle
cruffler and his wife
dj_fatstyles and his wife
SAGELA
RocketScott and his wife
Isildur
Me
And of course our guest of honor for the evening, Pamela Nugent!

Breck sure knows how to set a nice table. Note the map of Scotland behind the table, showing the different areas of the country; we tried Scotch from each of them:

Here's Professor Breck teaching the class:

Here are the single malt Scotches that we tried:

And the tasting mat:

And then . . . a bourbon showed up, just for scientific comparison of course.

And of course, we need to include a photo of RocketScott and Breck showing some Scottish pride for the evening:

We raised a total of $950 for Mrs. Nugent, so last night was a success no matter how you measure it. THANK YOU to everyone who helped to make it happen!

It was nice meeting her too along with a short silence near the end.

The setup was professionally done and thank you to scott for hosting the testing here.

Hey all, I received a nice email from Pamela today that reads, in part:

Pamela Nugent wrote:I want to thank you again for organizing such a beautiful event. Breck was really interesting and educational in his presentation. Many thanks also to those who donated. I hope there is some way to say "thank you" to the members who couldn't attend. The bills are starting to come in and the donations are very much appreciated! . . . Please thank everyone for me for sharing their time and the donations. I promise to spend the money appropriately. For now it will need to be saved. Still haven't received the hospital bill. Michael was in Overlake for 12 days.
Pamela

By the way, at the event I did read off the list of folks who donated but were unable to attend, so Pamela is well aware of everyone's contributions.

Thank you all, again.

Steve, be sure and tell her that if she needs help with anything else there are members who would be willing to pitch in. Home repairs, etc.
A very nice lady who is going through a tough time.
Can't say enough about brecks presentation, very informative and well done. :thumbsup2:
Hat's off to the Whiskey man!

Yup, already done. I told her we have 8000 members with expertise in everything out there, and asked her to just let me know what she needs and we can find someone that knows about it.
