I got a phone call from Nick,my DNR guy, today letting me know that Capitol Forest is in pretty bad shape. The Upper Quarry (Honey Hole #1) is trashed, as is the lower quarry (triangle pit, suicide pit etc).
He is reaching out to us to see if we can organize a group to come tackle a pit. We have done this before, in August of 2013 in the upper pit. The details of that Clean-And-Shoot are here: viewtopic.php?f=60&t=26497. I plan on heading out next weekend to scout both the upper and lower pits to see where we may need to focus our attention. Maybe do one at the beginning of summer and the other at the end of summer? Since DNR is reaching out to us.. It must be pretty bad. It concerns me that DNR is going to start restricting shooting on public lands because of some shooters inability to clean up after themselves. Even though I primarily shoot at a range, our access to public lands to praise 'Merica needs to be protected. So, I am reaching out to you guys to see the interest in this? I have added a poll above with some potential dates, you can select all of them if you are available. Once we have some verified participation, I'll get a hold of Nick and work out the details. He said DNR will provide bags (good bags) and a dumping location or dumpster. I plan on getting other groups involved in this as well once we nail down some details. A new thread will be started once we know exactly what's going down. This WILL be a clean-and-shoot event.. So, who's in? |
