Hmmmm . . . this is tempting!

I don't think I'm going to be able to shoot on Saturday, but if for some reason I can then I'll try to get down there!

In the meantime, I'm going to go adjust the sling on my Garand so I'll be ready. ;)

excellent

There is another sling application method that was preferred by instructors during WW2.
Involved releasing the rear of the sling and creating a very tight loop around the upper
support arm. To slow, but useful for marksmen and range use. The video covers the
Garand manual of arms very well. About 1943.

That link gives you...

404 (Page Not Found) Error If you're the site owner, one of two things happened:
1) You entered an incorrect URL into your browser's address bar, or
2) You haven't uploaded content.
If you're a visitor and not sure what happened:
1) You entered or copied the URL incorrectly or
2) The link you used to get here is faulty.
(It's an excellent idea to let the link owner know.)
.

The real link is...

http://www.waguns.org/rangemap

For some reason it is case sensitive on the Capital R in Rangemap..

Attached is also a screen shot of the PDF I found a while back for Range 15....

This method is still used today on rifles other than the garand. I have a sling system with a "Quick Cuff" for my Remington 700.

The "cuff" is attached to the upper arm and then the sling is connected with a QD clip. Great for Standing or sitting target shooting application but useless in a quick moving tactical situation.

See lots of Palma competitors use this method with their slings.

Put in 5 hours. 6 guys, 2 Garands, an AR10, 3 M1As, an AR mouse gun, a Mini14 (mine) that
proved to have a totally useless rear sight, 7mm Mag, 10" Super Redhawk, a #1 Mk III SMLE,
and a bunch of .22s. This really old guy, WW2 vet, came up and was eying my Garand technique.
He had a 1 MarDIv patch on his cover. Said something to the effect that he was surprised to see
a young guy (I'm 62) who knew the drill. Then he chose a Springfield Garand, hit the 300 yd steel
8 out of 8 offhand, then reloaded while the rifle was at his shoulder. Guy was awesome. Damn,
but that entire generation is awesome. I realized I have a lot more training to do before I have it
anywhere near down. Then I can die.

Wow, Corpsman ... that's a hell of a range report!

I wish I had been there for the "old guy Garand demonstration"; that sounds awesome.

Was the old timer a shooter, or one of the range guys? I know a few of the guys who run the range came out west with Lewis and Clark....
