When you are creating a new thread, or posting a reply, there are some buttons you can use to format your text, insert cool stuff etc. These are called BBCodes. Below you will find a list of which codes this forum has coded, and how to use them. If you hover over each button, you will see some text appear below it that gives a general formula on how to work it. This is a little more in depth.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- "B" - Bold To make your text bold, you just need to highlight the text you want bold and click the "B" button. Bold text looks like this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- "i" - Italic To make your text italicized, you just need to highlight the text you want italic and click the "i" button. Italic text looks like this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- "u" - Underline To make your text italicized, you just need to highlight the text you want underlined and click the "u" button. Underlined text looks like this. You can also combine the above to make: Text that is bold, italic and underlined. You just need to click each one.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- "Quote" If you want to quote a person, article etc you just need to highlight the text you want quoted and hit the "Quote" button.
Quoted text looks like this.
You can take this a step further too and give credit IN the quote to the Author by manually entering a little bit of code. This is the code of the quote above:
Code:
[quote]Quoted text looks like this.[/quote]
You can modify it by like this:
Code:
[quote="massivedesign"]This is the code of the quote above:[/quote]
All I did was manually put in the ="author name" and now it looks like this:
massivedesign wrote:Quoted text looks like this
----------------------------------------------------------------------- "Code" This code is not used often in this type of forum, but is basically a way to show BBCodes and other HTML lines without it actually performing the code.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- "List" This is just a great way to make an indented list. All you do is highlight your listed items and it creates it for you. Example: This is a partial list of items on my AR: Troy Battle Rail Magpul BUIS Sights EoTech 522 Ergo Grip
Now, if I highlight the items and click on "List" I get this: This is a partial list of items on my AR:
Troy Battle Rail Magpul BUIS Sights EoTech 522 Ergo Grip
To go even further, the next BBCode is that "*". If click that at the beginning of each item, you will get, this:
Troy Battle Rail
Magpul BUIS Sights
EoTech 522
Ergo Grip
----------------------------------------------------------------------- "Img" - The picture code This is how you insert a picture into your post. When you find out what the weblink is for the photo you want to post up (usually right click, copy image location). Copy and paste it into your post, then highlight it and click the "img" button above. I will use one of our map buttons as an example. images/forum/gstore.gif" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is our photo for our Store Map button. If I want to show you the picture, my code would look like this:
----------------------------------------------------------------------- "URL" - Posting of web site links This site automatically recognizes a link, and makes it clickable. This BBCode allows you to take it a step further though, it allows you to customize the link. Let's say I want to direct you to a link for the Google homepage. I could simply type in http://www.Google.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; or, I can go further and do this:
All I did was manually enter the = sign, paste in the link and then type in the text in between the ][ brackets I wanted you to see. And now, it looks like this: Please Visit Google's Homepage
----------------------------------------------------------------------- "Flash" - Playing a flash object on this sight If you have a link to a flash player object, you can embed it directly onto here. I don't have an object handy, but I'll show you the code:
Code:
[flash=width, height]link to object[/flash]
So, you need to input the width and height of the object, and then the link to the object.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- Spoiler - To hide text / picture etc This is best used if you want to add some suspense to your post: All you is put your text/picture etc into the code:
Remember, you can also add IMG tags etc. This is handy if you are going to post graphic pictures, of lets say a car crash. You can forewarn people that the attached photos are graphic and to proceed with caution, then add your IMG pics in the spoiler code. Do NOT add images that are not work safe unless you are in the NSFW Area. <---used the URL code.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- Align= - This lets you align code, like a normal word processor. Align= is very simple to use. You just need to tell it Left, Center, or Right after the = sign and than your normal text in between the ][. Example:
this is align left
this is align center
this is align right
Code:
[align=left]this is align left[/align] [align=center]this is align center[/align] [align=right]this is align right[/align]
----------------------------------------------------------------------- "s" - Strikethrough This code is helpful if you want to redact a comment, or maybe even change your price on a FS Item? To make your text struck, you just need to highlight the text you want bold and click the "s" button. Strikethrough text looks like this.
----------------------------------------------------------------------- Youtube1 & Youtube2 Probably one of our most popular BBCodes, and the one most frustrating. With the Youtube BBCode you need most of the entire link, and sometimes need to trim it depending on what it is. I am going to use our own member, dmonwai, as our example since he posts a lot of his competition vids on youtube. Here is one of his vids, full link as shown in by browser: Crap, that's a lot of code.
The other way is the Youtube2 BBCode. This one is new (as of today) and works very well. Now, you just need to put in the video # and the forum does the rest for you.
Code:
[youtube2]dsXKPVEKPy[/youtube2]
All those above will get you this:
----------------------------------------------------------------------- Vimeo videos http://www.Vimeo.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; is an upcoming video sharing site as well and as such has some cool gun stuff on it. I forsee some people using Vimeo more in the future, so we now have a BBCode for those users. When you find a video in Vimeo, the address line is pretty simple, not much coding to strip. A good example is this XDm Trigger Vid: http://vimeo.com/36668860" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; All you have to do to make this embed in a post is to click the 'Vimeo' and copy/paste in the # of the video.
