Should out to RocketScott for letting me use his blasting cabinet. I used 70 grit aluminum oxide that he had. It worked very well especially with the Mauser project. Next time though I think 120 would be better for the raw aluminum projects.

First up, the YL wanted Goddess Purple on her Shield. I'll get pics of the polymer and small parts later.

A year ago, dogfish helped me assemble and troubleshoot a 300 BO pistol that I made from an 80%. It's now sporting Stock Red, Combat Black, and Sako Green. The magazines were Magpul sand colored. The base for the optic, barrel, muzzle device and has block are all Combat Black.

Very curious of the durability of duracoat over cerakote. Duracoat is much easier to apply if I understand correctly. Damn fine work my friend.

I lightly blasted it and it was still very smooth. It laid down quite nice once I worked out the amount of reducer and retarder for that color. That purple is thick. Quite the opposite of the Combat Black which needed no reducing or retarding at all.

Thank you!

I've got some other examples to share. There's usually some Duracoat left over and I'm not into wasting materials so I shot some pieces I had around.

This 1911 frame is carbon steel and prepped by degreasing in Acetone and with the thick grey Scotchbrite pads, and a few squirts of TruStrip to rinse it.

Magpul sand color dust covers now in Stock Red and Goddess Purple. These were blasted prior to coating.

This flashlight got a facelift with vigorous scrubbing Scotchbrite and TruStrip, finished with Combat Black.

I'm inspired!

I don't need another hobby but have a handful of things I'd love to coat.

Snap!

All of it turned out awesome.

Does pushing the sights back in ruin the slide finish?

Thank you.

This is the first slide I've done and I haven't had new sights installed yet. I'll report back when I do.

Very nice!!

My post breakfast answer is, no, it shouldn't. As long as I prepped and sprayed properly, and allow it to cure, there shouldn't be any problems with the finish being damaged during sight installation.

Thank you. No cans for me. It's too expensive for me and for small parts, I can only imagine how much the parts would need to be tacked down to keep from moving all over. With an airbrush you get a lot of control.

I'm spraying in the laundry room. I went to McClendon's with some measurements and bought a Rubbermaid bin that has the same length as the inner width of the window frame. I also bought a window fan. Using a couple pieces of pipe for legs, the bin is cut out to match the fan and hook are installed on the side wall of the bin. Bailing wire is used for hanging.

Well in that case...those hooks are less than $1 and come with a nut. The mid grade AC filters are too thick for that fan to draw through, get the cheap blue filters. Wear a mask and eye pro. Use something to mask off your work area and reduce the dust coming in. A little fiber floating in the air will make it's way to your workpiece....ask me how I know. Any other tips you need to application questions, hit me up. Or just wait till we get moved and settled. I'll be setup with more space in a couple months.

I'm starting to think about what government and OSHA regulations I will have to meet for personal and environmental safety when setting up a home based FFL for refinishing and gunsmithing. I wouldn't want to gas out the neighbors or my household, and disposal of strippers down the drain...I'm sure that doesn't meet EPA standards as well as how that stuff will eat away at your pipes.

Old sights are just a place holder for now. She gets new sights soon.
